Just received my reverse recall this week, but no mention of any compensation. Mentioned on this forum, some folks says their are offered a $1000 credit and others 4 or 5% of what they paid for the bike. Is this compensation up to each individual dealer and something you have to negotiate, or does BMW only offer it if to you if you ask?
I called to set my appt after getting the notice in the mail (though knowing it was coming for weeks now cuz of the forum). I mentioned hearing there was some kind of credit and the shop manager explained that it covers accessories and I just need part numbers for what I want. So, if you're not outright told, just ask. They should know what you're talking about.

I think it is the dealer. I received my letter also this week. I took my bike in for the reverse recall and before doing so I called 2 dealers near me and they both claimed not to know anything about the compensation. I next called BMW Motorad and they claimed to not know anything about the compensation but told me to take it to the dealer and discuss with them. Upon doing so they had the paperwork explaining the compensation and allowed me to pick the $1000 worth of parts I wanted. My total actually came to ~$1300, but when I went back to pick up the parts and bike I did not have to pay any extra.

Did you ask the dealer? Although you shouldn’t have to, I think it does not hurt to ask in case they forgot about it or some regional micro management has told the dealerships not to offer it unless you ask for it. Did you receive a letter advising you about the recall and if you did, was this mentioned in the letter?
I am in the UK and so far I have not received a thing, yet my dealer is aware of the recall because they told me back in October. At that time the information was very vague tbh.
The agency that control all aspects of motor vehicles in the UK does not even have this recall on records but I am cool about it.
This is my first bike with reverse and therefore I have a habit of parking in a way where I won’t need the reverse but I am glad I have it just in case.

The official letter i read states you will be given 4% of the price you paid for your bike , which can be spent on accessories for the bike which will be fitted , i am getting engine bars fitted on mine this week at my dealership.

My dealer said that I didn’t have to remove it. I said, hey you will make a buck, I’ll make a buck (through comp) why not as I never use it.

He was going to get back to me on the logistics of the comp. If he won’t give me the credit, he will be rehooking up the reverse on his dime. I’ll call today and get you an update.

My US letter dated November (month after work was done) had no mention of comp.

The official letter I got Monday here in US does not mention any compensation

Oh, and I really don’t need anything. Anybody have a wish list? Maybe I can get it for you and provide a jumbo discount?? Idk.

The RSD brake & clutch reservoir covers was the only thing I needed but I ended up getting a few parts from the Roctane that I had already painted black so that option would not go to waste

Received mine while on a hunting trip. I don’t know when the remedy will be done… I bet it won’t be long. I may just keep it as is… I don’t ride the R18 in winter

You are in the UK right? Does the letter have a contact detail or anything? Just out of curiosity.
I have just checked the DVLA and finally it is on record.

Yup got mine as well ... no mention of any incentives either ...

Took my Classic in for its first MoT today & the recall work. I asked about a fix for the reverser & they knew nothing. I asked about the compensation & they knew nothing! But after fishing around on his laptop the service manager found something. It didn’t state the sum of compensation but did say it would be R18 accessories which he thought was ridiculous. He’s currently looking into Vance & Hines pipes that they had reduced to almost half price a while back. He’s looking to see if they can do something with them for me.
On a different note the bike failed the MoT due to a fluctuation in the front brake probably due to a warped rotor. I’ve not noticed anything, the bike has only covered 7000m & there is a lot of meat on both rotors. The service manager tried to get BMW warranty to cover the cost as it seems odd to them for this to happen but the answer was no. So quoted £830 for 2x new rotors & 2 sets of pads fitted-ouch! However BMW Customer Service have stepped in & agreed to pay 50% of parts cost so total bill will be around £520 now.
I wasn’t too bothered with compensation for the reverser debacle as there isn’t really anything I want to accessorise my bike with but I’ll definitely be taking full advantage of it now!

Its sad reading some of these stories obviously BMW are playing a game , i never had any letters or correspondence from BMW about my recall , i went and asked and then i was given a copy of the official letter , i agree it seems that if customers do not broach the issue the dealership keep quiet , i approached my dealership in November this year after info off this forum and the letter i was given dated in March !!!! then when i chose some engine bars i was told there would be fitting and labour charges , i immediately produced the letter which states accessories "fitted" i am let down by BMW attitude and they have definitely changed over here in the UK .

Back in end of October I contacted my local dealer here in southern Sweden and asked about the issue. They confirmed that my VIN had a recall and booked an appointment for having the reverser disabled a few days later.

When I picked up my bike I asked about the compensation and they told me that I had a 4% discount on any R18 accessory until the reverser is fixed.

I emailed their guarantee responsible and he finally responded and told me I can pick out R18 accessories from BMW for a value matching 4% of what I payed for the bike. I bought it second hand from them and payed 180.000 SEK, so I got to pick out accessories for 7195 SEK.

I ended up with the RSD cylinder covers, which I would’ve never payed full price for but have glanced at since I first bought the bike.

The whole process has been a big mess but I’m happy I’ve finally gotten the compensation. Let’s hope BMW find a solution to fix the reverser issue quickly.

I am in Australia and they also offered me 4% of the value of my bike or 3 years extended free servicing, that's all nice and rosy but they can't give a date for the fix, they can go F&$k themselves, I want a date as without the reverse gear my little legs can't push the bike back from a slight incline, has anyone been given a date or is the compensation they are offering a gift as they don't or won't have a fix, I am taking this further legally

Fix by Christmas, early to mid January at the latest (according to BMW Australia)
Yes all well and good they say there is a fix but won't give a definite date so all here say.
