Yes all well and good they say there is a fix but won't give a definite date so all here say.
I am in Australia and they offered me 4% of the value of my bike or 3 years extended free servicing, that's all nice and rosy but they can't give a date for the fix, they can go F&$k themselves, I want a date as without the reverse gear my little legs can't push the bike back from a slight incline, has anyone been given a date or is the compensation they are offering a gift as they don't or won't have a fix, I am taking this further legally
Go take your legal action. Let us know how that works out for you.

So superman. give me a date for the repair?
Mate, I don’t know you but this is my first bike with reverse gear, however, this is not my first bike on the heavy boys league.
With previous bikes (where no R G was available) I used to read the parking space and park in a way I could roll the motorcycle backwards in neutral and front brake control. Hell I still do this to this day on my Bagger and I have a reverse gear working but I rarely use it. Park upwards and then use the incline to roll backwards when you need to leave. I wish I could show you my steep and bending entrance to my garage.

You can launch a legal action but believe me when I tell you that before BMW launched the compensation scheme for the reverse gear issue, their top lawyers when through the pros and cons , their liabilities, etc and hence the offering.
I honestly don’t believe you will get far and I do believe you will be out of pocket and disappointed with the results. This is not a case of gross negligence from BMW, where you could have a case, this is an “optional feature” potential malfunction and they are working on a solution. Remember the adaptive headlight malarkey? That was indeed a safety issue, took almost a year and no compensation was offered as far as I am aware, just a like for like replacement free of charge.
I am not saying you should not stand up for yourself or what you believe is right, but I seriously doubt you will win this case.

Still no date offered

I would consider holding off on taking legal action; you can easily restore the Reverse functionality, plus you'll get some therapeutic wrenching time on the bike...

It's fairly straightforward to fabricate & restore the removed DC cables; I performed the procedure on both of my R18 bikes, an hour after returning from the Service Shop and +$1,000 per bike accessories wise....

In short, there is enough forum discussions, pictures, diagrams and such for you to tackle the restoration of the Reverse function on your own...

I am oft bewildered by the preoccupation many have with the "used" value of the bike. It perplexes me why some people make the purchase decision while burdening themselves with thoughts of resale value. I bought my bike to ride, not to sell. Resale values are affected by a plethora of reasons not least being the general state of the economy. Here down under during covid the used value of motor vehicles was higher than the original sale price. Why? Because you couldn't get a new vehicle without a wait of up to 18 months. Now the reverse is true. The same with bikes. They depreciate rapidly, level out, then appreciate slowly over time. Motorcycles are an investment - an investment in your time and enjoyment. Ride the dream, dream the ride, make your life a ride.
Completely and utterly agree with you.

I'm curious as to how much the dealership gets for performing the work? I would urge everyone to go and claim their $1,000 compensation credit, and splurge a little in making their bike slightly unique...for free..
Well, I'm in northern Spain and will have to check this out. Maybe folks in Europe can get $1000 too, at least before more tariffs kick in. :geek:

I just booked my 10,000 km service with BMW here in Calgary. They told me my reverse will be disabled. I will be given $1340 CDN credit towards BMW Accessories or Gear for my inconvenience. They said that anything labled BMW is eligible for the credit. This includes leather jackets, helmets, boots etc.

BTW. No update on time frame for the fix.

New Jersey, US: I called one of the dealerships today and they confirmed they would disable the reverse until permanent fix is available, and provide $1000 incentive towards accessories (I had to ask about the incentive).

I am planning on using it towards a Day Rider seat. I currently have a 719 which I believe is on the same comfort level as the stock seat (any confirmations?)

Interested to know what accessories, those of you who have been lucky to receive $1000, have been using towards. The other accessories I was considering include a passenger backrest and leg rest that mounts on the crash guard - both of which have plenty of aftermarket options that are in the $200 range so I'd end up spending $400-ish for those two items vs using up the $1000 incentive. Whereas a (good) seat (including passenger) will always be in the $900-1000+ range. So might as well get it using the incentive.

I purchased the heated 719 seat for my Bagger, which is the same thickness as the stock Model B seat (720 mm).

I have the Reservoir Covers on both bikes (R18 & R18 B) and the RSD Hand Levers.

Anyone have a link to the accessories for the R18B? I can not seem to find a catalog.

I am looking for things to buy with the $1000 credit. I like the mini LED turn signals for the front but need some other ideas.
