I just took in the R18TC for the recall to remove the two pigtails connecting the reverse lever. The lever remains on the bike so once there is a long term solution they can just reconnect. Cool thing is Americas BMW is offering $1000 of free accessories which I gladly took advantage of…. The bad thing is it’s for only true accessories with part numbers starting with 77. I sure wanted to be for stock parts but that is not the case.

Another good thing is that I never use the reverse gear anyways. After 4 decades of riding, I’m just use to finding a parking spot where reverse is not needed.

If true some dealers are not holding to it. I got a few Roctane parts that do not start with 77. The black front blinkers and the black hinge parts for the side cases.

Good News !
I have the bike in for a tire change,
they called me for keeping the bike in few days more to fix the "reverse problem",
new spare parts are coming !

Mon concessionnaire m'a dit qu'il avait aussi reçu des nouvelles mais j'ai pas plus d'Infos .
Par contre j'ai commandé pur 1100 euros de pièces dans le catalogue ... c'est quand même très correct de la part de BMW .

Well that sounds very promising if it turns out to be true, you may be the first reverse ‘fix’ on the forum 👍

Was at my local dealer on Tuesday they told me the $1000 deal ends on January 31st and they didn’t know of any fix yet.
Well, tbh, when the issue first raised its ugly head the news came out at the speed of cold treacle and there was a lot of uncertainty around. It was a stop sale if I recall correctly in the USA and eventually all the different countries caught up to get to where we are now. TheMadMax location is Italy so maybe they are first out of the block. It’s got to be good news though.

As some have already written on the internet, there has indeed been an update to this reverse saga. Attached is the BMW letter to this. Probably opened to all R18 bikes where there is a reverse. Well, here in Finland there is no rush with this... Ps I installed Vance Hines exhaust on my R18B at the end of the year, with the help of 1000€ compensation 😎

I just got my call yesterday that the fix is ready. Heading to the dealer now to schedule a day to come in. I could do it over the phone but that takes away my ability to browse toys and potentially make the mistake of buying another lol

The reverse feature is one of those functions that I would likely never use. I learned decades ago to never park a bike facing downhill.

Two things come to mind about this. While BMW bikes have the best mechanics of any brand and are the best looking, it is interesting to me how BMW tends to over-engineer things that needlessly raise prices.

It’s not about parking downhill or other silly mistakes, the reverse is really useful when you have no choice. I have to ride into my garage and obviously reverse out, but my drive is gravel and I would say to you come over and have a go pushing 374kg backwards for me, its really not easy and gravel is also slippery underfoot. The reverse makes it a piece of cake. Just because you don’t see any need doesn’t mean it’s the same for everyone. Not having a go just saying, this reverse saga has been a real PITA. Glad the end is near.
