Yes i agree why would you push out your new models if the reverse is not working or has not been solved ? maybe they have done away with the reverse on new models ?

The 2025 pictures do show the reverse lever Hammo, it would be a PR disaster though IMO. I am hopeful we are close to getting our bikes sorted 🤞

My reverse stopped working. Curious what the cause may be. Hope its not linked with the recall

I did talk to my local dealer and was told that BMW has not been very forthcoming with information on this issue. I'm thinking I'm going to try and call BMW North America later today and see if I can get any information.

Fwiw.... I suspect that the new module production would be prioritised supply wise towards new bikes and the rest of the world get them as they become available in 2025.
I think that approach would turn into a PR nightmare for BMW. They would alienate their R18 customer base to prioritize potential customers over the customers who have already given them their money and committed to their product. BMW would essentially be saying "You've waited this long, you can wait awhile longer." to us. That's not a great strategy for a company trying very hard to crack Harley Davidson's market share. If BMW gives us the middle finger like that, this will be the last BMW I ever buy.

Seems to me, "they already got our money" is the very reason they could care less about delivering a timely solution.

I like my R18 but the lacking CS, the long wait for a reverse remedy and some interactions with a couple incredibly slimy, underhanded and down right dishonest dealerships and their astronomical gouging prices on parts and labor have soured me on ever buying another one.

My view on this is that most of us affected don't care too much about timing..... have appreciated getting something for the "pain and suffering" and just expect to get it sorted at our next service etc.

The internet has amplified those that are more irrate about it (for whatever reason that matters to them)..... and a normal corporate would deal with that by sending some of the earlier production run to varous markets for their dealers to oil those squeaky wheels (and fit to on hand new bikes)...... whilst back in Berlin they would build the new bikes with the new units which you won't see before the squeaky wheels are oiled anyhow.

I would also suspect if my dealer had some units on hand they might be instructed to prioritise customers bikes in for service that haven't had the reverse recall done over calling me back in, them knowing they will be getting another allocation of units next month and would deal with me then..... and I would not have an issue with that.... as I know I don't have reverse (so no risk) and have been treated well.....

I guessing that where I live I will not be riding for another month or two. But After I will be starting my trips planned for 2025. I will not be a happy camper at that point if still not fixed. I hope to hit 300,000 miles on BMW's this year but may have to rethink my future bike of choice. I still have a couple of new bikes left in me, GOD willing.

I have to admit that I'm looking at this situation less from a customer point of view and more from a business management perspective. I've been an executive or senior manager at more than one capital equipment manufacturers. One of which was Multivac, a German corporation where I was the Director of Technical Services for North America and also managed global technical support. If we had an issue related to quality of manufacture or design, existing customers would be the absolute highest priority for any resolution. That would far exceed the demand from production. You absolutely cannot alienate your customer base in pursuit of other customers. That is a losing strategy.

BMW is struggling to gain market share in a segment dominated globally by Harley Davidson. The absolute worst decision they could make is to neglect the portion of the market that they've already won. To do so would be gross malfeasance and indicative of a total lack of business acumen. They can't on one hand build their market position and reputation on engineering excellence and then ignore their customers when there is a manufacturing or design issue.

As I interpret this, you are willing to sacrifice all new sales and new customers and support only existing clients, rather than taking a measured and balanced approach that treats both groups equally? And is BMW really going to take a significant bite of of HD's market... no. Perhaps a nibble or two.

Gawd, I'm bloody tired of all the whinging. I could scroll on by but I keep looking to see if someone has any USEFUL NEW actual data or factually informed perspectives. All the conjecture, what-if's and egocentric temper tantrums are really not helping anyone. We need a basement.

Just got news from the dealer I was about to plunk a deposit on the Classic I was looking at --paniced when I saw it delisted on the web site.

He said R18's with Revrse have a recall now.
I just got my recall on the reverse. Never had any problems, but will get it checked anyways.

So let me get this straight --You're whining about the whining? 🤣🤣🤣 Which.. .. I guess makes this whining about the whining about the whining.
Sorry couldn't resist. LOLOL

Witsend, yup! I decided if people need to vent their frustrations, then perhaps I would also.😉
BTW, love that you can laugh and see the humor, and perhaps irony! Ride safe and enjoy your ride, whatever you choose it to be!

Here is something interesting and factual... the post itself, not necessarily the info posted... we'll see what develops.

This is a post today from a FB group I follow:

"You know what? I just got an email from my local BMW dealer. He told me I did not have to pick up my TC, because parts are now ordered to fix the reverse gear. Oh happy days!
I live i Norway (Europe) and do not know about other markeds. But I think you should tell your workshop that some parts of the world now do have what is needed, to get your reverse back for the 2025 season."

A 'first hand info' .. now that IS helpful ... Although I am always a bit cautious when the info comes from a Social Network site ;)
