Just got news from the dealer I was about to plunk a deposit on the Classic I was looking at --paniced when I saw it delisted on the web site.

He said R18's with Revrse have a recall now.
well, so much for no recalls in OZ, got a call from dealer to bring mine in to dis- engage reverse until fix😣😣😣, just this week,. dealer is still waiting for fix

BMW Australia advise that once the remedy has been determined, it will replace and reactivate the "Reverse Assist". Apparently, it is an issue with the potential for a major short within the system that could have a cascade affect throughout the bike shutting down other vital systems at the most inopportune moment (as in at 110kph on the freeway !!!)

See my post - Full recall in Australia with a mandated compulsory deactivation of the "Reverser".
Hi,
Had my TC booked in for new tyres on 3rd October, dealer informed me of the recall then, they had only been notified 2 days earlier & at the time only had the letter from head office which he gave me to read over. Is as has been mentioned previously an issue with component overheating & possible further problems caused. Disconnecting was mandatory, BMW offering 3 years/30 K free servicing I believe but am waiting for my notification letter from BMW.
I have used reverse several times & not had an issue with it. Hope they sort the issue sooner than 3 years!
Regards
Mick

US owners are awaiting word of a compensation offer. I wouldn’t be shocked if there isn’t one.
It's already in the notification from BMW. $1000.00 of R18 accessories. My dealer asked his BMW rep and that offer doesn't include non-R18 accessories like helmets or jackets. Also the US offer doesn't include an option to get an extended service contract. I had them ask BMW about that one too.

I,m in the UK , anyone who is interested i have just contacted my local dealership with regard to this recall issue , they informed me that there is a recall ( i own a 2022 Classic ) the guy stated its because moisture can form in the reverse module and lead to corrosion resulting in failure of the module . Many thanks to all the guys who contributed to letting members know !!!!!.

Oh boy… a pair of R18 seat bolts :-). Just kidding… I haven’t been notified but I’ll get it taken care of. I need new tires anyway

So there are 5048 potentially involved, and the estimated number with defects is 1%. That’s only 50 bikes.

I ended up using the $1,000 credit to order the Roland Sands machined mirrors which are a little over $500 and the LED mini flashing turn indicator, front - Part Number 77512469302 ($482) for my Transcontinental.
Could you explain the process of getting the credit. Did it come from BMW directly or did you just have the credit through your dealer?

If there is any positive to this, it has created a substantial negotiation lever for purchasing a new bike, especially since there is not resolution date and it happened right on the back to the headlight recall.

I also got confirmed from my dealer in Belgium that there is a recall and a compensation.
My reverse was allready disabled from the factory whilst the option was not greyed out when ordering.

One thing for sure is this will make a nice dent in your second hand price if you want too offload your R1800 , i will hang on too my model rather than get ludicrous silly offers in part exchange .
