Does this still hold true in July of 2023.... poor support?
For an answer to that.... you need to define "support" in a meaningful way..... from my perspective.... there is no service manual, the dealer experience varies significantly (there is one in my city of 1.5mil.... next one is a 8hr ride), there is not the "Harley modification community" ie.... parts, service, third party support..... and .... unfortunately(?) not likely to ever be the scale or BMW attitude for it to be any different.

On a personal level.... I expected nothing else and am happy with the bike.... but it is nice to vent every now and again! I quite like how they are not common.

I realize this post was about three years ago but would like to know if anyone has an update on if a aftermarket tuner. I have an 22 Transcontinental with the freedom performance exhaust. Would definitely like to add a tuner to get mor HP.

The tune is very subtle but at the same time, a definite improvement. Sounds good too.

Thanks Cheshire Cat, Is the BT-Moto the only available tuner and will it void BMW’s warranties?
There’s also the SLR tune, but far less info or user experiences available online. I did the BT and really like how it irons out the wrinkles of the stock tune.

The tune won’t “void” your warranty, but you’d need to reload the stock tune before heading to the shop for work. There’d be no evidence of the tune once back stock.

Hello,

I ve ordered and recieved the BT-Moto system. I have an issue with the file they sent me back . They don t answer phone and dont reply to e mails . it cost me 1000usd with VAT . I am waiting. and i am a bit worried.

I had some issues with the first file they uploaded for me as well. They were pretty responsive and got me a good file quickly.

I wouldn’t be worried. They’re a pretty major player and not some fly-by-night. I expect they’ll get you right before long here.

Also, I think they’re open Monday through Friday, so if you tried them over the weekend, I’d expect you wouldn’t get a response til sometime this week.

We replied same day and to your email now, the email gets kicked back. I'm glad you replied here as you'll need to use a different email address, nothing we send to you is received.

Strange this is the mail i recieved the notification from BT that the download was ready for the tunes file . i ll send you another email on the discussion we have now .

As most of you probably already know R18 has a severely restricted lump of an engine possibly hiding potential of 10-20% more power just by derestricting it and letting it breathe.

If we would compare it to the closest Harley 107 or 114 M8 engine, with proper de-cat exhaust, more free breathing intake and derestricted intake tubes + getting it properly tuned we could see 100-120 HP from stock 91.

Right now there is yet to be released tuner or aftermarket ECU for Bmw R18 and that is the main problem. All of the new bikes stock from factory run very lean and further introducing free flowing exhaust and more air makes it very lean and potentially only hindering performance and longetivity compared to stock.

With R18B and Transcontinental I think there is a potentially big market for these aftermarket ECU solutions but none are currently available, year and a half after initial release of the motorcycle.

I have contacted all of the tuners offering ECU / remapping solutions and here are the results:

DIMSPORT/Rapid Bike - No intention at the moment to develop ECU for Bmw R18
PowerCommander - No response
Brentuning - They have started the development but they need someone lending them a bike to finish ECU development. They are from Michigan so if someone is local please get in touch with them so we can finally let this motorcycle breathe.

If you have any other pieces of information about aftermarket ECU for R18 please share.

p.s. I got also mixed information from local BMW mechanics telling me that modern ECU fitted to BMW R18 has the autotune capability via lambdas to overcome any additionally introduced leanness and compensate it automatically so we are free to "tune it".

p.p.s. There is a ton of custom R18 out there with full custom free exhaust and intake modifications, not sure if they just run stock ECU or is there some "secret" solution to adjust air and fuel levels.
It's now June 2024. Didn't Bren tune create a re map for the R18 using two different bikes in two different climates?

I have been reading through this thread following some recent Comments. I can only commend BT Moto for being remarkably patient and courteous in their replies. My cot would have been empty many posts ago. Even the mattress would have gone, and the teddy decapitated by now. And I count amongst the old f4rts here.

Hello,
After all , all as been sorted . Some strange mail issues but fixed . i ll make a simple comment on this for BT , if your mail is returned , try again without the attached tuned file , so we know and can find alternatives and don t waste time. . After few file exchanges needed to match the bike , i managed to get the tuned file to the Bike . I rode the bike for the first time today 200 km mainly secondary roads. Off course there is not a super power boost, but the response to the throttle is much faster and it s really pleasant . Thats the main stuff for me as i rarelly go to 2500RPM. The engine runs fine. I am really pleased to have done that move . Now, it has a cost ... the bike, without the mod, is very similar in terms of power but not distributed the same way. . i recommend . BT moto was really quick to respond after the e mil issue and i am really glad with this. I would recommend them with no issues.
Note that i paid BT full price for the service.

Is the throttle response jerky between zero and 5 or 10 percent? I don’t want my passenger hating how “responsive” the tune is when toodling around. I love the idea of an unrestricted tune though.

5K😲 boy, you ride like you stole it 🤣🤣
I think 2.7K has been my max. I normally cruise at 2.5K 70mph 🚨🤭
I commute on mine so need to overtake often. My average speed over that 18 mile journey was 37 mph over 27 mins. My flaps are open and exhausts drilled. 😂

Yes this was a weird one as I send about 3-400 emails and never get errors. Sometimes it will error but the customer still receives the mail. Glad it's running well and you're happy with it otherwise. We are available via social media as well if someone had a communication issue via email.

I still have an issue that existed before the tune whereby if I don't put enough rev's on the bike when taking off from the lights or a junction, the bike seems to rev and then drop revs on its own. I have to rev reasonably strongly if I want a smooth take off from stationary. Likewise, when taking off from an incline, the bike needs to be revved. I wouldn't expect that with so much torque available.
