Steering damper is in (from Oz).
Passed customs swiftly, no duties or what.

Have it test fitted. Fits nicely of course as it is OEM for this model. It is why I bought it. There cannot have been many fitted as it came with cruise control only so when one popped up, pounced on it.
Next is fit it tightly with the blue stuff.

Curious about how it rides. Did not buy it for a problem but still curious about if it is in any way different.

Went for some local errants on the R18. Very windy and took the most cracked tarmac.
Not in the least more sluggish steering but definitely moving less in gusts and on tar snakes.

Stopped for a coffee (with two cookies), a tinto de verano and a plate of carne in salsa while looking at Bertha. Cost me all of €4,- Life is good here.

My 2021 First Edition Classic has the steering damper, cruise, reverse, heated grips, hill assist, shorty windshield, auxiliary headlights, adaptive headlight, Pro handlebars (mini ape hangers) probably more! Maybe later production? I love this bike, except the replacement key fob is crazy$$$.BMW R18 A.webp

The dealer called it Dark Nomad Package. I didn't know much about this bike but am pleasantly impressed. I do miss an actual tachometer not a digital readout. I see Wunderlich has one big$$$. This bike was a bargain to buy. Beautiful ride, very unique.

How do I determine the production date?
 
I have my vin. I just searched using it and GROK told me it is a European Model? Early 2021. But couldn't narrow it down. Do you know a better way? Is it likely I bought a European model from an american BMW dealer? It had 728 miles from an executive program at BMW, never had been registered, at least not here in USA.

Not True; all the models had first editions that came with pinstripes, Glasurit black paint, different chrome etc. I, for one, wouldn’t have even wanted the bike with out the black paint and pinstripes. The best news is the First edition naked and classic bikes sold at big discounts.

Mine´s like that and is 2022 not tagged First Edition.

Point is that most First Editions are post 30/08 2020 sécond First Editions.
 
Thinking of fitting a heel-toe shifter on mine.
More for looks than anything else, with the nostalgia leading the else. Functionality is going to be minimal; limited to the odd :cool: feel.
Blame the extended reverse gear shifter: That is simply übercool.

Going OEM as the chinese solution with ferrule wedges is a bodge in my eyes and also want both pedals to be same material; chromed steel.
First the homage saddle though. It is taking its time getting up here in the mountains.
 
right, found this.
Looked for it as a perspective to try figure out what Roland Sands did with the intake.

The stock intake has thréé main bits.
1. is the front engine cover with the intake ´gills´ which is where the air actually enters from the outside. The rest is noise reduction and fliter housing. From the gills there is first a water catch and the first noise damper. Then the two snorkels to the cover of the filter housing.
2. is the first drawing below. Filter housing and first resonance chamber below.
3. is the second drawing. plenum chamber attaching to the above, two hoses out, one to each cilinder.

Roland Sands connected two bell mouth stubs in place of the two hoses and deleted the rest.

For our purposes the possibilities are different and basically limited to the function of one and the filter bit.

The Roland Sands tuning also explains that the R18 program using the wideband O2 sensors is like an autotune with 20% flexibility. Thát means we can get away with up to 20% extra flow mods and the stock electronics will adjust to factory mixture/ignition/O2 parameters.

But but but Bent Tune? That modifies the factory parameters allowing for p.e. a slightly richer mixture.

My plan is to modify the intake when the flter element needs replacing.

The Roland Sands tuning I refer to is their blue dragster. They removed all the stock intake boxes and fitted two bell mouth stacks with no ECU remapping. They also fitted a véry modest wet NOx system to it. As that was after the MAF, it had no effect on the fuelling, just added some horses when switched on. Though it sounds cool, the NOx is totally useless on the road and furthermore tricky stuff best left to Hollywood fantasies with random gear changes...
Anyway, the velocity stacks triggered my curiosity about the intake boxes and their comments on the OEM ´autotune´ confirm my understanding of it.
