Leg Rests

Has anyone installed and actually used these BMW leg Rests? Riding at my age of 70, I found it nearly impossible to use these things. Removing your ley at 80 MPH and its pulled behind you! I have a pair of these that are for sale after installing, using for 1 day and then removing them. Anyone interested? they were $510 new when purchased. Will sell for $350
 
I had the same experience; purchased, tried on two or three rides, removed, posted, sold and shipped..

I'd probably try the Wunderlich leg rest solution, they're just a little too pricey for my comfort..

I'm not entirely sure; however, it's a much cleaner look and appears to be not as far forward when compared to the BMW OEM rest:

The Wunderlich rests look much better. I removed my OEM leg rests too. They cover up too much of that beautiful cylinder, are awkard in practice, and the wind goes right up your pants leg.
 
I went to install a set of Wunderlich leg rests today, but at the beginning of the install, I found that the holes in the supplied brackets were too small for the original screws from the bike. M6 screws do not fit in a 4.8mm hole.
I contacted Wunderlich Australia to find out if they supplied me the correct parts.......They are waiting for an answer from Wunderlich Germany.
 
Me. I have a 29" inseam. I cannot rest my leg comfortably on them.

In addition they are fitted with natural rubber spacers with captive nuts embeded at each end of a rubber column, after less than a year of being fitted two have rotted away, which left the rest to flap around. I'm guessing that the heat sped up the natural degradation that rubber suffers with. They could do with being polyurethane or something similar.

I did stick them together with mastic but they were an eyesore. After a few emails back and forth to Wunderlich during which they assured me that they stand behind their products, I spelled it out and said "well are you actually going to send me some then?" They have done, but no doubt the same thing will happen in time.

There are two sizes of nuts used in the fittings.
 
Hi i,m getting on a bit myself , was looking at those for cruising , however i tried to raise my legs like you said and it is not advisable at 30mph never mind 70mph on a motorway so they are a no go for me .

I can help you understand, but I cannot understand it for you.......There is not 1 nut in the parts drawing......The 6mm bolts I refer to, are the existing bolts on the bike that go in the holes where No.5 on the diagram is pointing.
You really have no understanding of what I am talking about....
 
How on earth do you think the parts labelled 4, 7 and 9 are made? They are ordinary nuts set in moulded rubber. You are friggin rude you muppet. I'm not the moron who can't figure out how to fit the rests. Looks like everyone else must have a rocket science degree.

They are not nuts....They are silentblocks.....Look at the parts list. Secondly....the silentblocks have nothing to do with the issue. Why you referenced nuts (silentblocks) when I was talking about the holes, has me baffled. You still are clueless.....calling rubber blocks, nuts. I am guessing that you don't do much of your own work on your bike.
 
If anyone isn't happy with their Wunderlich leg rest and thinking of selling them; shoot me a message, I'm thinking of trying them out...

I didn't like the BMW OEM Leg Rest product..

Why the heck would anyone fight (and get angry or rude) over a simple misunderstanding around a single part of one niche accessory to a fairly uncommon motorcycle?

Look - the world has enough garbage to deal with in our lives, all day every day. So one person was talking about one thing and another was talking about something different. Motorcycles and the discussion thereof should be a happy place because we need that. Life is hard enough, don't make it worse here...

That's the main reason I would want them! To turn on the air conditioning on warm days.

I too think the Wunderlich ones look better, but I don't like that they bolt into the engine. I just have a hang up about adding things like this bolted into the engine, I worry. ;)

I am going to try and figure out some solution with maybe Kuryaken highway pegs or something to go off the factory crash bars, so that I don't cover up the beautiful cylinders.

In any event - regardless if the great Wunderlich hole and nut debate rages on for decades - I won't hold it against any of you when I see you on the road. I just wanna ride!
