The above link refers to a riser plate made by Manfred Christ.
It has been mentioned here on a couple of threads and I thought I should give my feedback having purchased this plate.
It is substantially made using thick aluminium plate and 4 stainless fittings. It replicates very closely the factory option from BMW.
Fitting was a bit fiddly as the tolerances are tight. Next time round, following installation of the fittings, I would place the plate on a jack and offer it up to the sump of the motorcycle. This would make it easier to install the screws.
Once in place and secured with Loctite, the plate feels very sturdy and ground clearance is in the region of 130mm. I should make it clear that Manfred does not recommend leaving the plate permanently installed. He is very clear about that. I plan on doing some very careful road tests on the basis that the max speed bump height in the UK is 100mm. If it feels too close for comfort I will remove it and use for servicing only.
I have combined this plate with an EazyRizer Big Blue bike lift purchased used on Ebay. This is a great piece of kit which allows access to nearly all of the bike. With the EazyRizer I can lift the bike nearly 1 Mtr off the ground. The bike feels really secure however, in addition I secure the bike via the lifting plate to the jack using four hooks. This really does provide the confidence I like to have when dealing with such heavy weights.
With the lifting plate from Manfred Christ I could probably use the EazyRizer Strong Arm for access to spinning and possibly removing both front and rear wheels. I will have to try that next.
Access to the oil filter is currently compromised despite the access cut into the lifting plate. I feel confident I can find a way around this problem given some time.
In conclusion. The thing I particularly like about this plate is, if I can leave it permanently installed, lifting the bike for rear wheel removal will never be an issue even if out on the road. I would only need a helpful passer by, or the recovery service to have a jack.
The pictures attached are unedited and show the current mess in my garage. I will next have to make a priority of sorting this out.
Any questions, please shout out.
