New OBD arrived today, selected the infamous Component Group 1 (as per 3A1112 fault) and started wiggling the wiring around the connectors I've checked/cleaned previously..
Nothing around the fuel pump / level wiring, nothing around the throttle body, fuse holder.. etc.

But what I said yesterday kept bugging me
Rectifier cover underneath, tidied up the wiring, zip-tied the rear O2 sensors wiring etc

Because the fault cleared when these were loose, and came back as soon as I zip tied them.

So I started moving the wiring underneath the bike, specifically rear O2s and Exhaust Servo wiring and got quite a bit of movement:

So I'm planning to unwrap these and check the condition of the wiring..

If you own a multimeter it would be well worth checking for continuity and short circuits in that wiring. I have had wiring look perfect but broken inside the insulation. Looks like you could be onto something. Fingers crossed.

How do you like the iCarsoft tool?

The picture you attached; looks like it lets you monitor transient voltage signals in realtime, while manipulating the different groups of wires?

What does the iCarsoft call that function or menu screen?

Bonjour,

No wait, after disconnecting the trickle charger overnight I measured the voltage today, 12.36V measured with Ignition ON - but engine not running, if I start the engine I get 14.3-14.4V which should be correct.
That sounds about right when running ... without the engine running it seems just a tad low ... before I changed my battery mine was right around 12V but it dropped dramatically when hitting the starter and occasionally threw a headlamp fault because the voltage dropped so low ... a new battery fixed that problem ... But, I don't think that is the root of YOUR problem ... back to 'Square One' ... sigh

.

@Mac this is SBF which you would've heard of in the UK, so far they've been quite responsive so can't complain about the customer service.
I am hoping you have seen the update on social media about SBF going into administration and or that your bike is not at their premises?

Finally found the culprit!

I haven’t posted in a while despite quite a bit happening, so here’s the latest.

As mentioned before, I’ve been using the iCarsoft MT V6 to monitor Component Group 1 voltage in real time (@Star-Lord it was something like ECU → Live Data → Component Group 1 → Wave was like a separate function which displayed that real time voltage graph).

I took off the rectifier cover underneath, removed all the zip ties and started gently moving the wiring around. It didn’t take long to notice something odd: it looked like the previous owner, when removing the exhaust servo, had pulled the harness and zip‑tied it under tension. I never spotted it because it was tucked behind the rectifier (while I was busy with the connectors side of things..)

Once I unwrapped the loom, it became obvious the tape had holes, and one of the wires going to the exhaust servo had damaged insulation and was shorting to the frame.

As soon as I touched that wire to the frame, the ECU instantly shut down Component Group 1. That’s exactly what had been happening continuously, which explains why the O2 sensors were being taken out and the engine felt rough.

Repaired the wire, wrapped everything properly… short gone, error gone. 😃

Battery + ECU reset adventure

During all this I also realised the battery wasn’t in great shape (also hinted by @Ulrich and @PHIPHIGOY ), so I ordered a Noco NLP30 and swapped out the OEM one saving about 7 kg!

Feeling more confident with the iCarsoft diag, I decided to reset the ECU parameters so it could recalibrate everything after all the disassembly. Bad idea. The reset worked, but the tool failed to initiate the Throttle twistgrip learning, which left the throttle values negative at rest and triggered a new error..

Didn’t want to waste time, so I ordered the UniCarScan UCSI‑2100 OBD and paid for the MotoScan app license. OBD arrived the next day, and within two minutes I had the throttle min/max values relearned and all errors cleared.

Since then: I’ve done around 300–400 miles, riding pretty much every day. Bike rides great.

And the timing… unreal

With SBF going into administration, I genuinely feel like I dodged a bullet.. The bike was scheduled for collection last Friday. On Thursday, when they called, I told them (lied?) I wasn’t around and we’d need to reschedule. because I wanted to do a final round of troubleshooting with the iCarsoft tool. The very day it was supposed to be collected, they announced they were going bust 😵‍💫

So imagine this: I finally track down the issue, fix the wiring, the bike is finally working - and the dealer who was meant to “repair” it goes into administration. Mad

A brilliant find, fantastic, that has removed that one as it was a real head scratcher. It always seems to go back to the ‘who touched what last’. I was concerned SBF had picked up your bike and that’s why we hadn’t heard from you. You certainly dodged the bullet because if they had you could have been bike less for a serious amount of time. Sadly in the UK the general public are at the bottom of the administrators list to help. Now you can use this good weather to enjoy.

EN: I hope you manage to figure out what the issue is. The error message is quite generic, so you really need an OBD tool to narrow it down. I was getting the same warning for two completely different causes: a broken wire on the exhaust servo, and also the throttle grip being out of parameters. Without the fault code, it’s hard to know where to look.
Also, I’m not aware of anything in an ignition coil that would “click”. The only thing I can think of is the fuel injector.
In my case, I was able to access the codes with a cheap OBD reader before committing to a dedicated one that also allowed me to reset parameters, set service intervals, and so on.

Maybe the "clicking" noise is a cylinder valve out of tolerance or specification setting? (0.2 - 0.3 mm)
