Recall? On all models with Reverse

The bigest problem I've seen is opperator error. If its blinking it isnt locked into reverse. If sidestand it down it won't work, if clutch is pulled it won't work, if break is engaged it wont work. Any of those thing and you have to start all over. It is a small learning curve. But it also says all these things in the manual. I will be by my dealer in Tucson tomorrow and will double check but as of now i havent seen anything about a actual recall or stop sale.

Rather than throw shade at two members because they are new, do that verify thing by actually picking up a phone and calling a dealer. Obviously the other verification methods that were used, were not up to date on information that had just been released.

Thanks, feel much better about the discussion. Will see how it develops. So far, k oxk on wood, my '02 hadn't had any problem.

Yes it does. The email from the dealer clearly says they have a stop sale. Dunno what production models but since that email from her I have checked with 2 other dealers and they both reported Stop Sales on theirs that had reverse. But --yea. Check for yourself --report back aye? 😎
 
Somebody posted this on a Australian R18 facebook place...

My take out is that they can sell a new bike if they remove reverse and sell it as "no reverse with benefits"... but exisiting owner bikes still awaiting a fix.

Like most things.... time will tell (assuming the Russians don't nuke us).

Anyway... I want a working reverse... for my twice a year silly parking mishap.... or maybe my old man skinny legs I might end up with 10 years from now. My reverse worked last time I used it.... but to scared to now.... haha.

the non believers will still discount it "but, its not based on fact, it's all heresay!" 😁

What a bungled mess. The amount of money involved... from the payouts, to the lost sales.

I think they gave me the old module, don't remember at all... Let me check tonight and also the part number in the Invoice.
 
Using the reverse on each ride, I got used to all the safety rules, and I have no problem with it.
But I'd like to have it renewed if needed.
 
Picked up my B from the headlight recall today. Service manager didn’t know much, but that there is a recognized issue, thinks it’s something about liquid getting into the module to the point of creating a safety hazard. He said nothing with a clear rationale has come out yet. Didn’t mention a stop sale, so who knows there. So, we can stand pretty confident that a US recall will be issued in the next 30 days, according to this guy. As for a timeline on a fix, who even knows.
 
The plot thickens. Just got off the phone with the dealer mentioned in my OP. Now he is saying that from BMW corporate, it has something to do with the ignition coil on those models with reverse, that IT has to be replaced. Nothing about removing reverse entirely. No ETA whatsoever.

Nothing like clarity from the top, huh?

I suspect an ignition coil replacement is far cheaper and easier than having to engineer out a bug in the reverse module. I don’t know enough to understand how the two would be related though.
 
Uhhhhmmm ... these bikes really don't have an ignition coil in the traditional sense ... there are 4 small coils one located in each spark plug boot ... this is getting really odd ....
 
The starter may have an additional magnetic actuator, with a coil.
If yes, they probably talked about that.
Or, as it was saleman's words, he talked about the coil in the cash register...

Hmmm. I'm seeing the model I was thinking about buying now reposted with "Reserve Assist Disabled". So.... so much for what the salesman blabbered about yesterday about an ignition coil. Reverse was one of my considerations for buying it.

I'm just out from our local dealer.
The stop sale is activated in France and a recall will be organised asa the new part is available.

Save $10k and find a nice used R18; you'll be happy and you'll be helping someone else out who is looking to sell..

Hindsight is 20/20... I would definitely buy a used 2022 R18 Model B First Edition; however, back in 2022 I bought brand new and for $24,500 because I wanted what was the last First Edition Model on the floor and didn't want to miss out on something special...

I love the Black paint, White pin stripes and the chrome option with all of the bells & whistles, including Reverse...

I wouldn't stress over this Reverse thing.. plus, you're in a much better buying position than most of us on this forum - we've owned our bikes for a few years now since new..
