Performance plates

Where are you ordering from? Please give contact info I have 2 sets I need to have made. Thank you in advance.
My son 3D prints them.

Have asked for 5 sets so 🤞how many he brings along this weekend. Have put you up for 2 sets.

I love the ingenuity and the concept to solve the air box from starving, or in this case - suffocating...

Someone mentioned the use of a brillo pad to act somewhat like a screen or filter; I love the look of my badges... I may try sandwiching a brillo pad between the engine case and badge, in order to allow for extra air to enter around the entire edge of the badge ..

I agree.. the R18 has plenty of power already, I guess a little tiny bit more pep won't hurt...😍

Just take them off and go for a ride to see if there is any benefit.... and report back. I did a bench mark ride the other day and intend to remove mine for tomorrow's ride.... better still... no top engine covers at all....

Could you update us on the difference, been meaning to try this myself just haven't had the time.
 
Be aware that just removing the plates will have minimal effect if at all as the rubber snorkels are still blocking entry to the filter box. So the effect of only the plates will be disappointing. But then I have amply explained all that already.

Even so, we all appreciate them for what they are and that I believe they improve the looks.
Let me know when it’s happening and I’ll DM you (which I have no idea how to do, but I will look for guidance)🤔

Swapping the filter etc to free up the breathing REALLY is level 1 supereasy. The effect is as can be expected 😇
Now obviously the chain is only as strong as.... blabla and the next restriction is the filter housing itself which also is a noise damper, but the difference in torque is very notable hence Hard Rock mode :cool:
 
Hmmm ... I was thinking ... and that is usually where the problem starts :LOL: ... I have read quite a few threads on 'Removing the snorkels' and/or an open frame breather insert ... but ... here is my thought ... I agree that when standing still the 'snorkels' may restrict some air flow ... but by removing them you are taking away the 'Ram Air' effect that they have moving (to various degrees depending on speed) considering the air intakes point forward and into the head wind ... now there will be still some without the 'snorkels' but by opening the sides now you are taking away that one as well ... anyway ... just a thought ;)
 
The intake slits are behind the front forks. Rather than in the head wind it is a low pressure area with very turbulent air.
Next there is no sealed direct connection between the gills and the plastics through the casings.
Also do see how restrictive the snorkels are.

So no, no effect lost other than throttling for noise reduction.
 
Interesting point ... hmmm ... in that case I am will to argue that the air rushing along side the engine (and we definitely have that) will take air from inside the cavity with it ... I forgot the name of that aerodynamic effect (I think it might be Bernoulli's principle or something like that) ... and that would create an under pressure and thus there being less air available to the throttle body ...
... and did I mention it is f..king cold outside and I am not riding ? ... :LOL:
 
The air flow at the sides is split over and under the cylinders with your legs being a dam for the upper flow. It will be ok. Well heck, I know it is as I actually tried the before and after :ROFLMAO:

That's sorta why I went for a ride with the purpose of doing several particular "runs" to do a like for like test..... I'm not expecting much in the 1200 to 3,000rpm range but will see. I did do a few runs to 5,000 rpm or so and will see if the "roll off" improves in any way.... but I'd be surprised as the cams in this bike are all about low/mid range torque.... not power in the 4,500 to 6,000 range.

Maybe if I don't see an improvement it will be because I have old man little legs.....and will be known from tnen on as "no dam legs"

Let us know how it goes! See if there’s any difference in exhaust sound as-well.

Yeah.... I'll probally get mine dynoed this year..... I suspect my torque curve is 15% or so lifted.... (brentune, filter, exhaust and 98)..... however.... I'm strongly of the view... that a free'er breathing R18 (so in and out .... ie inlet and exhaust) is not an optimised R18. It 100% needs a tune to be optimised. I removed the tune from mine last year for the reverse fix.... rode the bike 200km like this..... and hated the experience (relatively speaking).
