I kept my R1200C Montauk after buying my R18 FE.
I rode a 80 km yesterday with it.
I still love it, despite the lack of torque compared to my R18.
The chassis, the incredible powered breaking, this bike is still fantastic.

This thing is finally back up and running. It's quite the "event" when a crank goes. Finding a replacement crank for a '57, and then finding somebody to rebuild what you find (because they all seem to need it) isn't a quick process. All is well that ends well though, and it's up and running and purring like a kitten...

How did you discover the crack? Just curious. Was it during a routine tear down?

Discovering that there was a problem didn't require Columbo. I was accelerating at around 30mph and there was a big "BANG!!!". Fortunately I was on my way home, and was only a mile or so away. The thing made a huge racket after that, and I thought it had to do with the transmission. But it blew a head gasket in the process, which was weird. Ultimately after checking everything else, it required a tear down to figure what was wrong.
