??So only B, T/C & Roctane models cone with the factory damper?
No, apart from pre 31/8 ´20 (see brake lines above) the R18 first and following edition also came with steering damper when ordered with cruise control.
Thát is what had me (re)think about one befitting my riding style.

Actually I want to come back on that.
The purist will make a point of ´First Edition´ only applying to the first production run and not to any following ones with changes in the spec even if from the same model year.
Though not considering myself a purist I do agree with thát. Something is only first ÓNCE and a modified second run is a sécond edition.
From marketing point of view ´First Edition´ is a nice selling point though so the sales department will not be purist AT ALL.
Concerning the R18 only the motorcycles produced untill 31-08-´20 are the real first edition: The next batch had the front brake lines different and the OBD2 port swap is another, more wellknown, change.
Obviously such changes in production are not plánned and therefore upsetting the marketing wagon of ´First Edition´ and as such BMW tagged the whole MY ´21 as planned. Wait, they even tagged new models as such :ROFLMAO: 🤭

The Healtech plugs are in.
Thus bike on its side:
First loosened the singke bolt under the frame.
Covers off the exhaust flap mechanisms.
Cables outof the brakets.
Now pulled the servo motor assembly.
Unplugged the ... plugs.
Plugged in the ... plug ins.

Now first lasagna.
Charming wife has prepared lasaga ánd given me a hand whenever I asked to put the bike on the side, to shine light under and unasked for moral support and bringing me water to drink.
Anyway, lasagna.

Team work.

about the latter; my charming wife is not moder electronics savvy; I should be but not much really; my 23 y.o. veryVÉRY savvy son went back to uni yesterday.
So the OBDlink LX arrived today obviously.
At least had the píng! idea to ask my son Sunday to set up the googleplay store on my phone and actualise the password.

Now collecting courage to use the QR code and try download and activate the app.
Not today though 🫣

Downloaded the OBDlink LX app. Not yet connected it to the bike so not paired. Wondering when it will ask for License Key

Meanwhile the extended reverse gear lever arrived.
Thát is tech I can handle 🫣 so fitted it.
Looks proper cool and befitting. Neat product for the money.
Fits by pushing it over the original lever and fastening three grub screws: Two underneath and one 12V plug side.
Needs to be pushed properly home and held there while fastening the Loctited screws.

Modifications per 03/09:

Rear luggage rack (came with bike; is uttah crap but functional).
Brake pedal lowering adjustment ´bodged´.
Plastic sheet over fuses.
Fitted a huge chrome Bosch hooter (more classic look)
Exhaust servo delete (still need to sort the fault code).
Aluminium number plate (looks way more classic).
Valanced double pin striped front mud guard (matching the rear and getting boring but múch more in line with the retro theme).
Extended reverse gear lever (looking pre war vintage again befitting the retro theme by BMW).

Today going down the mountain to the coast. Visit an old friend, find charming a dress, lunch, swim in the sea etcetera.
So wheeled the R18 out to hook up the OBDlink.
That green thing must be real mean
Holding it near solved the problem; just the threat of it made the CEL go out.
Started the bike to engage the reverse gear and start a bit further from the door.
No CEL...
Must be the best OBDlink evvah :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

The extended reverse gear lever is a hoot.
Réal cool to shift it. No need to bend down. Súch a vintage satisfying feel. Almost tank shift without the agro of thát. Love it!!

Btw managing summer tourist traffic and narrow village street at the coast and rocking back up, the exhaust sang its different tunes. Pottering about, occasional overrun, impressive relaxed burble with the odd pop and now proper backfire bang. Up the mountain, the overtaking blasts with quite audible enough power punches.
Would not want it any louder. In fact the bangs are now a bit over the top in urban surroundings.

Though not a runabout and despite having a modern automatic Vespa for that, used the R18 as a runabout this morning. Also topped up the petrol.

The engine is surprisingly frugal at nearly 25 kms/litre.

The new reverse gear lever is só satisfying.

The local road between the two neighboring village has a bit weird surface. The tarmac is in itself ok but because it follows the river closely the ground under it moves creating lengthways cracks which are made worse by the heavy tyre load of agricultural vehicles and the trucks form the local stone quarry.
The R18 does not like those. No the rear suspension is not the issue, it is the front end which has a tendency to tram rail. Sticking religiously to the specced pressure is paramount but also looing forward to the steering damper maybe addressing it too.
