Hi Cheshire Cat, guessing your bike is an R18?
Alex-B, will ensure the alarm is manually armed only!
thanks both for your support and comments.

The Datatool alarm system that came with the bike enables the use of text alerts for various functions.

Ah OK, that makes sense. I think this is a UK system fitted by the dealer. Would have been neat to have this. I have mine on a CANBUS tender all the time. The Germans love for electronics will drain the battery but in fairness, it is the same problem with HD.

My previous bike was a Fat Bob which over my ten years ownership I had to replace the battery three times due to drainage issues. This time round I would possibly look at a lithium battery if I had any problems. The Datatool is indeed a third party application fitted by the dealership. I think in the UK it was fitted to all R18's

Did anyone find a replacement for that stupid positive cable, I mean it was difficult for them ( BMW ) to make with 10 more cm longer?! How ever me I am looking for and is having priority in my list of change!

Mine was loose after the reverse recall. I started getting various error messages on the TFT all because of a loose positive at the battery.

... off question ... does anybody happen to know what the frame size/designation of our batteries (FE/Classic) is? ... Should be something like ETX30 or so ... and if anybody has the actual (physical) dimensions and lug positions that would be nice .. and could you share please?

I just installed NOCO NLP30 lithium ion battery. bought it on Amazon, $199. Amazon says it doesn't fit but NOCO says yes. I can confirm it fits. 15 lbs lighter. easy install. The negative terminal is left. 700 cca!
