Just arrived from a fun 1,000 mile trip and saw this on the gearbox, i'm wondering if im the only one with this "issue" my dealer told me there's nothing to worry about but i'm not really convinced. please let me know your thoughts.

Best regards,

While no one wants the “tiger stripes”, the slightest weep can do that. On my last beemer, I saw the stripes at 500 miles. Wiped it clean and watched it. Never saw them again.
The seals on a new bike need time and miles to settle in.

Have the same issue still waiting for the dealer to carry out the modification and that was in October 2023.
Update , after 12 months the dealer has rectified the oil leak in the final drive. The level of service was below average when following up on warranty work.
The leak is safety issue and should not have taken 12 months to fix , on receiving my R18 i noticed others with the same problem.

I now have egg on my face. My final drive had a slow weep that was worse in warm weather. It is less now but shouldn’t be leaking at all. My earlier suggestion that seals need time to settle in is no longer true.
For 14 years I never had a leak on the R1200c and it was a single swing arm bike! Imagine the loads on the R1200c bearing!
The R18 bearing has an axle. That drive bearing should not leak.

A dealer is looking at mine now as leak is getting worse every ride. Mine was resealed once but continues to leak. I lowered the oil level as suggested with no success. should know what they're going to do soon I hope as the stripes on tire are getting heavier.thumbnail (46).jpg

Ugh...!! That's not a good look, especially when making that first right-hand turn at a moderate speed.. I'm speaking from experience after changing the rear gear oil and spilled a little on the tire.. feels like slipping out on a patch of sand.

This will be the first thing I check on my bike later this morning....

Mine is a slow leak, but the strong odor of gear oil is always present on the cloth and final drive. I am particularly disappointed because of the quality of the R1200c final drive that had unbelievable loads on it but never failed.

Yes, very dangerous when turning a corner. I would clean the rim before each ride and slosh a bit of gasoline on the rubber.

That gear oil is pungent ... I noticed the smell the last time I was in my garage..
