The photo indicates a manufacturing process gone wrong and should not have passed quality control.
And why should you replace it , BMW should have a solution for this and many other issues on the R 18.
Update , after 12 months the dealer has rectified the oil leak in the final drive. The level of service was below average when following up on warranty work.
The leak is safety issue and should not have taken 12 months to fix , on receiving my R18 i noticed others with the same problem.
Had the same problem with my Classic , would be riding for a short time and the fault would appear , turned out to be a manufacturing fault, loose connector with the wiring harness.
Nothing major.
Feedback on riding the R18 in hot weather.
Earlier this year i spent over six hours in the saddle and the average temperature was over 40 C ( 104 F) mixed riding conditions.
With all the issues i have encountered with this bike to my surprise no failures.
The bike was sent to the dealer i didn't ride it. The leak was fixed however the dealer did not communicate on the oil leak or repair.
No effort in cleaning the bike before handing it over to the customer, disappointing with the level of service.
Much appreciate the feed back from all that have responded.
Unfortunately i haven't been for a ride sine the post, i shall update on the issue in the near future.
