If you're on the fence, now is the time to buy one

Yesterday, a friend of mine mentioned I must have spent a pretty penny on my R18. I told him I paid $2500 less than a fully loaded GS Adventure and he was pretty surprised. I wasn't quite right though. Looks like 2022s are getting down there relative to sticker for GSAs -...

If you're on the fence, now is the time to buy one

When I bought my R18B in June, the lowest price anywhere on a bagger was $19,500 but it was not a premium bike so I ended up paying $20,500 for a fully loaded first edition bagger. At the time, $22,500 could get you a trans continental ($2K more). Lowest I saw a base pure was around $12-$13K and...

    R18 B 7 Jurock Windscreen

Alright, did a 150 mile ride today. 86-90 degrees out and did 30 to 85 MPH. As said before, everyone's torso length, helmet type & head size are all different. Some slouch, some sit up right, etc etc etc so every windscreen will be different but at 6'3" with a 32" inseam and a Shoei Neotec II...

    R18 B 7 Jurock Windscreen

I'll know tomorrow. I decided to take the GS out today and explore some back roads and get lost in some corn fields. It was a good day for being out in the woods under a canopy of trees. I'll hop on the R18 tomorrow afternoon and explore and do a bit of interstate riding.

    Kindergarten Oil question

I thought the R18 was a dry clutch and you have separate reservoirs for engine oil & transmission fluid? Even though, specifically if I'm wrong, the JASO MA2 spec actually addresses what you're talking about - It's formulated for even the S1000RR and 1290 Super Duke who both use wet...

    Being acknowledged by other m/cycles

New Hampshire is completely dominated by cruisers. easily 80% of the motorcycles that pass by my house (I live on a curvy road along a lake) are cruisers. These folks ignored me for years on my dirt bike and touring bikes. Now they stop and do a u-turn to look at my R18 that's permanently parked...

    Oil question

I am VERY literal and I'm sorry about that. My office mates tell me I can't read sarcasm and they take full advantage. I meant no offense. The internet can be hard on reading body language or word choice as well.

    Oil question

I think you mis-read me or someone else. The BMW R18 does have Catalytic converters. Every EURO5 motorcycle requires them. They're discreetly tucked away mid-way through the fore-pipe where the 2 welds are before the secondary O2 sensors. My point was, I don't think blow-by is occurring or if it...

Is limited lean angle posing a safety risk?

I take my GS into corners about 20 miles and hour faster than the R18. Once you learn how far you can push the bike over, you adjust. as for 'safety concerns' the majority of the bikes in North America are cruisers with low hanging hard parts.

    Oil question

Every modern car I've looked at owning has an acceptable oil-loss figure. My new Volkswagen Tiguan which is direct injected and turbocharged has an 'acceptable limit' of 700ML every 10K miles. At a total value of 6L of oil, that's 10% of my oil going out the tail pipe from day zero. BMW, to my...

    Loose Connector

Looks like an ambient temp sensor and these usually slide into a plastic clip thing. I'll look on mine to see where it went.

What did you do to your R18 today?

Made it home safely. Here are some favorites of the bike off the big camera: From 3PM Friday until 4PM Sunday, I did 1500 miles from New Hampshire, Maine, New Brunswick then Quebec and finally home via Vermont. LOTS of riding. The R18 handled It flawlessly. Here's some fuel economy. Folks in...

What did you do to your R18 today?

VERY long day of riding. I’ve done just over 1000 miles in 30 hours and not just interstate. Made it to the edge of New Brunswick then back to USA for this:

What did you do to your R18 today?

Left the house at 2PM yesterday. Made it to Caribou Maine by 9PM, 11AM and well it’s 10AM EST I’m in a new time zone and I’m almost to the Acadia Penninsula of New Brunswick. ABout 700 miles in the last 24 hours. Should have gotten up earlier and made it an iron butt:

    Engine bar/ crash bar

That's what I've been going off is just comparing part numbers on A&S and that tells me most likely that a classic engine bar probably fits the B/TC but I'd ask the manufacturer first. The reason I haven't gone aftermarket is because I wanted the leg rests from BMW which require I get OEM bars.
