Adaptive Headlight Recall Update

My R18B headlamp was replaced summer 2023 because it was broken and mine is also showing up on the recall vin search with it needing to be replaced.
So, once BMW has the part available, I'll get it replaced again!

Thankful for this thread!

I had my bike in for service and I had them make sure to note its recall status in the official service record. They for sure said they have no idea when the parts / solution will be available - but I figured it would not hurt to have the documentation. Maybe its redundant - but I like to have bases covered.

I checked with my dealer. The same response no idea on the solution or part.

You got that right its a sweet Ride for sure

Harley CVO Road Glide also has recalls against it.

I guess my point is - I am not sure why a headlight recall - while certainly annoying as heck - would trigger a “well, time to switch manufacturers” sentiment.

Recalls happen on all kinds of vehicles all the time.

So - back to the thread at hand. I just wanted to bump the thread by giving a status on my bike - that is all. Not start a manufacturer debate.

Hopefully they’ll get headlight parts in soon. I’m fortunate though - I have another bike I can ride if this one needs to await a repair…

I honestly would prefer a simple LED fixture non adaptive

Agreed... However, a 100% compensation for the additional cost of the original upgraded Adaptive Headlight option..

I've taken a look at the headlight when I had the fairing apart; there is a shit ton of wiring that connects to it... I'm not even sure that I've seen and or experienced the benefits of having an adaptive headlight function while riding...

One would think it would be three simple wires... Ground, +12V for the low beam and halo, and another +12 V for the high beam; I guess we can add another 12 V wire for the adaptive motor-cervo functions... but not what looks like a pretty complex wiring harness...

agreed because it was an added option

Just got my official recall letter in the mail. States “remedy is unavailable” and that BMW will contact owners once the remedy is available to schedule the repair. I was hopeful that BMW would have this sorted and repairs happening by April/May, but given we’re days away from March, that’s quite an ambitious timeline. I guess we can still hope!

At least you have received a letter which means there is an acknowledgment that the issue exists. I casually spoke to my dealer and he told me they / he was not aware of such failure. I believed him, there is no reason for him to lie to me, he works for the shop, he does not own the franchise. My point is that if something were to happen after your warranty expires, it would be difficult for BMW to charge you for a replacement because they have already acknowledged the issue. In the UK it seems this issue has not been reported and I seriously doubt the headlight for the US market is different than the one used for the European market.

From what I can gather for now, this is a US recall only. Guys here on the site pushed hard enough with our highway safety agency to get a recall issued.

For that jacket - it’s a lovely piece of leather. I had to size up, which was surprising as I take a small in any other brand jacket. Had my zipper completely fail on the third or fourth wear. Thing just split open while I was riding and wouldn’t zip up again no matter what I did. Took it to the shop and they ordered me a new one. This zipper on the new jacket seems fine so far. The zipper pulls tho, they’re super flimsy leather tabs that pull off with next to no force. Bit frustrating for a jacket of this cost and brand. Bought a nylon string pull tab and it’ll be fine from here - I hope.
Why doesn't everyone just use YKK zippers, especially for the large amounts of money they charge for clothing? They are very reliable.
