What did you do to your R18 today?

I continue to play around with the CNC and made a brass emblem for the blank on the left side cover that has the battery behind.
Still need to do some more polishing and finishing up. But I am thinking this is going in the right direction to add into the vacant spot.

I used the logo and converted the file then played around with the different extrusion levels for the details. Unfortunately the BMW is still too small on a 50MM medallion to make it visible with the milling. Next step is to try my laser function
The smaller gap is at 0.3 mm I am thinking if I can leave the logo area blank I can laser it in and hopefully have good enough resolution.

Anyone out there with Fusion 360 experience happy to get your thoughts

So playing around with an AI render tool I have come up with the above
So now just need to import into CAD and generate some tool paths. The medallion above took 4 hours of milling. Hopefully this is less!

Hey @HUNTS! I’m currently installing the same engine housing cover. I ran into a bit of a snag: I removed the screws from the BMW logo, but it seems like it's glued to the original chrome cover. I don't want to mess it up, so I wanted to ask… how did you get yours off to access the screw behind the logo? Any tips would be awesome!

None of mine appeared to be glued and came off easily.
Get a hair dryer, leave one screw partially in and get something sharp that isn’t metal. 2 minutes after a hot hair dryer and prying it on the side, it’s all your. One screw stays in so that it doesn’t drop on anything and scratch.

Get some fishing line and work the line behind the upper part of the badge, then floss the line back & forth to get between any adhesive in order to remove the badge.

I used this same method to remove the reflectors on the front forks of my Bagger.

I hate fishing (I get bored), so I used the hot hair dryer on my reflectors to remove them 🐟🔥
(My wife actually gave me a hair dryer to leave in the garage for such emergencies, as she got sick of me ‘borrowing’ hers).
I removed the decals off my rear guard doing the same thing.

Whilst replacing the battery in my R18 today I took the opportuntiy to remove the two blade fuses, clean the contacts before replacing them.

It amazes me how poor a choice a 30amp blade fuse exposed to the elements is in this application. I might do something different one day. Would not surprise me if it causes the odd melt down as the bikes age..... made me ponder a recent owners bad luck. Worth an annual inspection.

Went for a ride about yesterday to enjoy the sunshine (on my red one) and on the way back stopped to fill up and grab a coffee from the service station, so parked up and left my bike in the parking bay. Anyway, wandered back over with my drink and was just people watching really when a guy came over to chat. I hadn’t noticed him before. He had a MV Augusta sports bike, parked around the corner, very nice looking (think Fireblade ish) and about as opposite as it gets in every way. He was really taken by the R18 and asked all about it, he was a similar age to me and was pondering whether a cruiser would be a good move. As we all know the R18 (all versions) is a pretty rare sight and it never ceases to amaze me a lot of people still have never seen one in the flesh so to speak. It was just a very enjoyable conversation so I thought I’d mention it, I hope and expect many of you have similar experiences.
