Well.... I dropped my first BMW wheeling it out of the shed yesterday.... it was my r nine t Scrambler.... that I always thought I'd drop occasionally..... as I ride a lot of unsealed roads and tracks with it..... anyway.... no real damage as the engine protection bars did their bit.

So.... today I ordered a set of engine protection bars for my R18.... i wasn't going to put any on it as I prefer the looks as is......but I decided to embrace the inevitability of my future self's ways...... before it is too late.

I also added a 10mm gel pad between my homage seat and it's sheep skin cover..... as it also seems I'm more of a hard arse then I thought.... or more of a bony bum really.

Oh man, so sorry to hear that but glad that there was no real damage to the bike. See the bars is sort of like an insurance policy and even if it pays out just once, the savings in the longer term are worthy
Thanks. WIth the R18 I was initially thinking that a single jug chrome outer wasn't any more expensive to replace then a set of protection bars ($700ish).... but who knows..... on my scrambler I'm ok with a few scratches on the engine bars..... but not on the R18.... it's to pretty.

Well.... something weird happend.... ordered the Hornig engine bars from Germany on Monday and 4 days later in a small rural town the other side of the world (and down a bit) they are already on the bike.... faster then covid!

I went for polished stainless ones.. hoping I can polish out a small brain fart one day.....

They must have teleported it across the big water!!!! My replacement foot peg rubbers took 2 weeks to come from BMW Germany ... wow .. Oh and looks good!(y)

Added some bling to Uschi ... I took a chance and ordered some bits from China (AliExpress) the price was very low and I thought I take a chance. There was a bit of a mix-up, most likely because the site is translated into English ... it said it was a set of covers .. I think what it meant to say is that there are 3 matching covers ... but you have to order them separately ... no big deal .. a very nice fellow named Fujun (from KR Motor) helped me out and we got it squared away ... anyway, I have no dog in this fight, but if you are looking for a reasonable alternative this maybe something for you, R18 First Edition Covers ( I hope the link works)
If you are unsure .. just contact the seller (KR Motor) ... they will reply rather quickly.
The casting is pretty good and the original screws will fit fine ... but you do have to re-use the original gasket.

I am still need to get the one for the rear brake ... but I wanted to make sure first ... it is on order ;)

Correct me if I’m wrong but it seems like these fit flush like side wise… the RSD ones don’t? Like they look thicker than the reservoir in pictures.

Not sure what you are asking ... these are even/flush with the outside edge of the reservoir, just like the OEM covers ... the original ones are slightly tapered (height wise) and on one side a little bit thinner, these are the same height on both ends ... other than that they are identical in size ... I have never seen the RSD ones other than in pictures ... so I really can't make a statement there.

Looks like these replace the OEM covers, the RSD covers fit over top of the OEM covers. You don’t remove the OEM covers when installing the RSD covers.IMG_2849.webp

Exactly what I meant.. see how the RSD ones are bigger cause the fit on top of them. That was my question thanks!

I like how yours say R18 first edition. I’m curious to know how the rubber gaskets fit on the inside of these.
