This is important enough to become it's own thread.

From what I have understood from the thread https://www.r18forums.com/threads/bt-moto-ecu-flash-group-buy-and-discount.727/post-52089

The reverse fix will require BMW undating the ECU. Therefore unless you want muck around do NOT add the BT MOTO tune to your R18 until you had the reverse fixed

In other words: If you do the tune before the reverse is fixed the original ECU will have to be reloaded back into the ECU, the bike taken in to have the reverse issue fixed and at that time the orig ECU will be updated to read the reverse fix.

Then you'll have to pay the remapping $200. (killing the coupon deal) to have the NEW ORIG ECU read, reupload the file, redownload the file and update the ECU

I had my BT done long before the reverse recall. Before bringing my bike in for the recall, I removed the tune and put the bike back to stock. I guess I’ll find out if I need the tune updated when I get the bike back.

I never looked into the BT because I am happy with the factory mapping and therefore I don’t know how the whole thing works. Now, this is my question. If one can reverse the mapping back to stock before sending the bike back to be plugged to the mothership for whatever reason, I am assuming that for the very first time the BT is plugged to the bike, the device saves the mapping somewhere, correct? If this is the case, can the latest mapping, (i.e, after Motorrad done the update for the reverse fix) be saved as well? Can one pick and choose add ons to the current Motorrad mapping from a BT menu or is it the case that the BT has a unique mapping, slightly different from the Motorrad one and is either one map or the other?
I am sorry if these are dumb questions, like I said, I don’t know sh*t about BT or how it works. Maybe the BT guys could work on add ons, the same way MS adds patches to an existing software?

Unless the bike’s ECU software has been updated, you should be able to reapply the tune from the handheld tuner without issue.

If the ECU has been updated, then a new tune from BT Moto will have to be generated at a cost of $200. I think BMW should have to pay for this as the reverse issue is their fault. But of course BMW is not going to do that.

I love how folks just post "stuff", prior to searching and maintaining a particular topic within a single thread...

I guess you’d be happier if everyone just posted under a single thread “BMW R18”, and searched that for whatever they’re looking for. Sometimes a general subject thread goes off in many different directions and maybe some of those directions are worthy of their own thread, as long as it falls under the forum heading I don’t see anything to complain about.
