turn signals

When I signal for a turn in either direction, they flash 3 times and shut off. I have to do that several times to give anyone reasonable intention. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to correct it?
 
I've never heard of that issue. Sounds like a good reason to take a ride to your dealership and clue them in.
 
Hmmmmmmm. If it were my bike I’d disconnect the battery for a good ten minutes and see if this kinda hard resets things.

What speed were you doing? On my RT, if I am in excess of 100 km an hour, those are the signals to indicate lane change i.e. shorter duration. Under 100 km an hour the flash longer. Do use a longer flash at higher speeds I double hit the turn signal which lengthens duration
 
From the manual which u did not read...
’automatically switched off under the following circum- stances:
Speed below 30 km/h: after 50 m dis- tance covered.
Speed between 30 km/h and 100 km/h: after a speed-dependent distance covered or in case of acceleration.
Speed over 100 km/h: after flashing five times.
If button 1 is pressed to the right or left slightly longer, the turn indicators only
switch off automatically once the speed- dependent distance covered is reached.’

This guy is asking for help. Let’s try to offer aid without attitude. We all have questions.

I took his post to mean that he's sitting at a light wanting to turn. He hits the signal, it flashes three times then turns off. If that's the case, then he clearly has a problem. If, on the other hand, he's moving and the distance or speed parameters are met, then there's his answer.

Read the Owners Manual(Answer Book), page 37.
Says it all.

When you tap the turn signal button real quick, either to the left or the right, it only flashes three times. It is for lane changing. The new Triumph Rocket does the same thing. If you hold the button slightly longer, the indicators flash like normal - as mentioned in an earlier post above. The Triumph also considers elapsed time and lean-angle correction.

My Goldwing is a 2014 model, European. It has auto-cancelling turn indicators but not with that 'quick tap' functionality.

And yes, I believe I have tried them over the course of the last seven years or so.

I got the problem fixed. Turns out I had a bad rear wheel sensor so the bike didn't know how fast or if the rear wheel was turning. Works great now.

Bad rear wheel sensor? It did not throw a ABS fault or an ASC fault? Both are controlled by comparing front and rear wheel rotational velocities.

As he also admitted that bike was indicating a fault code for the faulty rear wheel speed sensor, ABS or ASC fault indication. The input from these sensor control the flashing of the signal lights. The bikes diagnostic system was indeed indicating the problem and it is covered in the Riders Manual page 27.

ABS error
ABS indicator and warning light lights up.
Possible cause:
The ABS control unit has detected an error.
The partial integral brake and the Dynamic Brake Control function have failed. The ABS function is not available.
Continued driving is possible, provided you take into account that the function is not active. Observe additional information on situations that can lead to an ABS fault ( page31image4612616075).Have the malfunction corrected as soon as possible at a specialist workshop, prefer- ably an authorized BMW Motorrad retailer.
ASC intervention
ASC indicator and warning light flashes
quickly.
ASC has detected instability at the rear wheel and responded by reducing the torque. The ASC indicator and warning light flashes longer than the ASC intervention lasts. This feature continues to provide the
rider with visual feedback confirming that the system has initiated active closed-loop intervention even after the critical situation has passed.
ASC self-diagnosis not completed
ASC indicator and warning light flashes.
Possible cause:
ASC self-diagnosis not completed
min 3 mph (min 5 km/h)
Ride off slowly. It must be noted that the
ASC function is not available until the self- diagnosis has been completed.
ASC switched off
ASC indicator and warning light lights up.
Possible cause:
The ASC system has been switched off by the driver.
Switching on the ASC ( page31image4609817646).
ASC error
ASC indicator and warning light lights up.
Possible cause:
The ASC control unit has detected a fault. The ASC function is not available.
You may continue driving. Note that the ASC function and the dynamic engine brake control are not available. Observe additional information on situations that can lead to a ASC fault ( page31image4609838475).
Have the malfunction corrected as soon as possible at a specialist workshop, prefer- ably an authorized BMW Motorrad retailer.
