Throttle body cleaning

I wanted to ask if anyone has cleaned the throttle body on a BMW R18—specifically, how to safely open the throttle to clean it. Does anyone happen to have instructions? The bike has low mileage (around 8,000 km), but I want to check and clean the throttle body due to rough idling. I’d appreciate any help. Piotr.

Could be worth checking out another R18 to get a "personal baseline" of R18 "idling"..... assuming your R18 isn't running an over oiled "performance" filter. The idle of these bikes on a stock tune is lean and wobbly....

Have you considered fuel and a reset of "adaptions"?... adaptions can be reset with a obd tool.... I'd get a new tank of fuel and reset the adoptions way before a mechanical deep dive.

Hi, thank You for advice. I did adaptation reset but for any case will try to do it one more time. I am aware of specific BMW idle in rock mode but what concerns me is that I have this problem at roll mode also. I thought that it could be caused by Jekill&Hyde exhaust but it was replaced and problem still exist. It runs smoothly as it is cold. So I decided to check throttle, replace spark-plugs, check ignition coils and valves clearance. Bike has only 8 000 km but it hard for me to accept as I compare idle to BMW R100R 1996 where it runs perfect. Could You explain what it means" running an over oiled "performance" filter ? Piotr.

If someone has installed an aftermarket filter like a DNA or K&N and "serviced it"' so washed and reoiled it, one can add to much oil and the oil can find it's way into the inlet and impact things like "maf" sensors or the like.... effectively messing up what they ECU reads from the sensor so be bike alters it's "tune" based on incorrect data....

Generally the filters come oiled and most of the issues occur when they get over oiled later by the owner.

Anyway.... I doubt you'll find anyone who has cleaned the throttle body.... could be worth posting a bit more about your bike and what is non standard on it? An air leak at the header to head connection could do this. Have you refitted the stock exhaust to see if the miss is still there? Used new sealing gaskets?

Thank You for explanation. My bike is BMW r18 K34 OL11 100 y. edition. Non standard is only Jekill&Hyde exhaust. It was replaced under warranty because of slight exhaust gas leakage at the flaps. I am not sure here if service did adaptation after this change - so thank You to remind. I will do it for sure. I will check also air leak at intake and replace new air filter to be sure. I manage to get used throttle body so will try to disassemble it first to learn. As I do it I will let know about it here. Piotr.
