Some Notes from a Good Maintenence

So, I dont get a lot of BMW service… every couple of years because it needs things I don‘t feel like getting a special jack for. Here are some notes:

I like New Tire day
There is a maintenance notice out for getting driveshaft splines lubed. As an old BMW guy trust me, when you can get this done for free do it. BMW final drives do fail if not maintained properly.
New Reverse Wiring came with a software update
Don‘t neglect getting your brakes bled.
My spark plugs were out of spec at only 12000 miles, so heed the warranty schedule. Your bike needs new plugs
Finally has anyone else been updated? My bike is almost jumping off the pavement and my Vance and Hines exhaust sounds awesome… or is it just the new plugs and air cleaner?

They didn‘t tell me; when there is a service advisory out they just do it. Beware the BMW final drives; if it all isn’t perfect it does bad things. Clutch and drive shaft spline lubes were always part of the airhead regimen of fair. In this case there were incidences where it wasn’t done at the factory I think. They just told me the bike would be a day late because of the advisory and the tech had not changed R18 tires and had to remove the mufflers and such

There was/is a thread on this on the forum somewhere from a while back. Certain very early build bikes were required to have a very quick procedure done at the dealers, on a recall notice. Lubricant was sprayed onto the driveshaft joint, literally. My previous R18FE was one of the affected bikes. It’s all on your VIN whether your bike needs it or not. If you’ve already been to a dealer and had any service done I expect you have nothing to worry about. If you only do home service best check.
