Security - What do you do to lock up your R18

... I don't use any of them .. maybe because I live in a more rural/less thieving neighborhood ... but a friend of mine did ... well, until he had a couple beer and forgot that he locked it with a disc lock ... let's just say he bought a few new parts after and he is never going to use a disc lock ever again

I use the steering lock and turn on the alarm. The bike is directly outside my front door and at night the porch lights illuminates it very well. We are in a low crime (not no crime) area. If the weather forecast includes rain I have a large cover for the machine and put that on too.

Never occurred to me to lock up my bike. I live in a safe area and keep it in a garage.

In the end, everything mentioned will stop the casual theft; however, if the pros want your bike - they'll just take it... and it will happen quickly time-wise.

I always lock my steering, sometimes chain the bikes together. I found the steering locks on the Pure/Classic work well and consistently. When locking just turn a little left and push in, pull the steering off the stop a tad to find where it goes in all the way, then just turn it right a tad and pull the key out. To unlock it's just turn left, let it pop out, and right, then pull key out.

I had put in an order the a Kryptonite New York Legend lock https://store.kryptonitelock.com/p/new-york-legend-chain-1515-w-new-york-padlock . It's getting shipped from overseas (not from that website) so who knows when I'll get it. I'll report on it when I've had time to try it out. I still think even with the bags on the Classic the best place to use it is through the swingarm. If It fits reasonably I'll consider getting a floor anchor for my garage.

I got exactly the same chain and lock as my insurance would not consider anything below the rating of that chain and lock. It was delivered to me yesterday and weights a ton but looks really well made and tough. I don’t have to use it at home since my car will be parked right on front the garage’s doors but I commute to work 3 days a week and the idea is to thread the chain through an anchor ring that is cemented on the floor. In the UK the police also recommends to place a bike cover over your bike as statistics shows it somehow makes your bike invisible to thieves if parked amongst other bikes. It is a public underground car park and has lots of CCTV everywhere but I am not taking any chances. Will also place an existing chain and combination lock in the rear tyre if I get some space there.

I saw on YouTube that folks ride around in groups on scooters and will take you off your bike and ride it away leaving you sitting in the street, the Rusians mean business there ! ! ! jp

I finds steering locks on a motorcycle are very easy to break by the experienced thief.
In my opinion by making a visible deterrent it will tell the thieves to move over to an easier target so a lock and chain on both wheels or a combination of chain in one and disk lock on the other should do the trick. I don’t agree with advertising trackers or things like that for the obvious reasons. Datadot and other invisible markings are a different story and I do advertise these since many vehicles are stolen to be broken into parts and then sell them individually, so by having these parts invisibly marked it adds another layer of deterrence.

I ended up getting an Abus 14mm 6FT Maximum Security CHAIN with the Abus 37/80 Granit padlock https://lockitt.com/Abus-14mmchain-3780lock.html last year when I had an R18C. I traded in the R18C for a R18 TC which is what's in the picture. The cast wheels are way more manageable for using a chain. I know the way I have this attached through the front wheel and the Wheeldock holding it isn't great security (someone can remove the wheel and steal the bike) and I should be going through the frame and have the chain mounted to an anchor in the garage floor using a floor anchor in the concrete. I managed to tear ligaments in my wrist in July so my riding season ended abrubtly and my priority was to get the bike stored quickly. Maybe Santa will bring a floor anchor and I'll find a place through the frame for the chain? Another winter project.

Good stuff. I would not mind buying the X3 as an extra protection. I firmly believe it is all about making your biker a harder to steal so the thieves move onto an easier target.

Yup! Just hold the power button for a few seconds, it'll lock... then press again to unlock, then again to power up the bike.. works really well.

Really? Didn't know it was electronic, I use the key to lock the steering (it's on the right side). Here's the relevant page from the user guide:

Yup, the TC and the B are electronic... the Pure and the Classic are the key lock.
