R18B/TC BrenTune BT Moto users beware!

Bought the BT unit last winter and have used the tune with much pleasure for about 3000 miles.

Decided now was the time to get in for the ol’ headlight recall. Loaded the stock tune before dropping off, expecting to reload the mod once I had the bike back.

Well, got the bike back and went to reload and BUPKIS. Mod tune not compatible with the ECU.

Looks like BMW needed to remap the computer, which locks out the BT mod, requiring a refresh of the whole process. Which, suckily, includes a $200 payment to BT Moto to do the work on an updated tune.

So here I sit, $200 poorer, waiting for the BT guys to work through my file. Sucks, but I’m not sure there’s any way around it.

Oof ... I am more and more happy that I didn't go that route ... by the way you only have a limited number of flashes available (per ECU) your GS-911 will tell you how many are used up ...

Is that true?? Never heard you can only flash so many times. That’s real disheartening news, unless the number is like 1000 or something.

I don’t imagine having to turn back the tune unless I’m taking it to a dealer, which should be for warranty or recall work only. So hopefully not too many back and forths!

Yes, the number is limited ... But I think it's 50 or something like that, mine is on #5 just from the BMW system updates ... Which I don't have to worry about anymore, my local dealer folded and now it is a 280 mile roundtrip to the nearest one if you have a GS 911 it will tell you.

I’ve been lucky and have not had to pay for another tune file. Knock on wood.

Yep, and that’s what had me a tad nervous when I took the bike in. But I figured, why would they update the ecu for a headlight replacement? Thought I’d be clear and good to go. Not so lucky.
