I recently bought a set of slip ons. I'd like a stock setup to keep on hand.

My OEM Mufflers are drilled already. If anyone in the NJ/NY/PA want to swap their unmodified undamaged mufflers for mine, I'd be willing to discuss a trade.

So, got the drill and hole saw out - literally 4 mins later ze big Cherman has a bit of a growl. Piss easy to do, just do it.

Update: after drilling the baffles out I notice that it struggles to start initially. Always takes on the second attempt. Any ideas or actions I need to take? I have a standard air filter.

If you have a GS911 reset your 'learned values' ... Mine had odd starting issues a couple years back ... That cleared it right up and it did not return ... I am using 'Freedom' pretty well open slip-ons

Getting better after a few rides/starts?

Drilled mine out today. Happy with the results. Definitely made a solid improvement without being the over top. If anyone else is thinking of doing it don't waste time trying to hook out the disk. Simply take each exhaust off and give it a shake. They came straight out and ensured all the swarf did as well.
Realise it’s been a while since you posted but I’m just about to drill mine so thought I’d ask before actually going ahead. Was the pipe (rear silencer) pretty much straight through then, for the disc to fall out when you shook it? I know stock exhausts can often be a combination of sealed passages and returns against the flow. If it’s like that I might not go ahead. TIA.

What size hole cutter did you use please? Looks like 1 3/8” is about the best fit according to the thread.

Ok, update. Decided to go for it, tried a 1 3/8” hole saw which fit nicely down the yap but it just wouldn’t cut, I think the stainless welded joint on the end of the tube was too hard. So I tried the 1 1/8” and that went through like butter, made a lovely neat job. Perfect. Like others before me I was amazed (and pleased) how thin the end baffle was, makes me think the engineers must have knowingly made it so easy to remove, and I say that because from my experience over the last few years Euro5 exhausts can be an absolute b@*$&%d to modify and often just not worth trying incase you completely wreck it. Had a bit of fun and games trying to locate and tease out the RHS ‘disc’ that fell into the silencer, but did with the help of a butchered wire coat hanger, torch and lots of patience.

So the all important start up. Super pleased, unlike our American brothers I’m not mad keen on very loud bikes so this simple, free and easy mod hits the sweet spot for me. Think the burble on tick over is lovely and it just sounds a bit ‘free-er’ if that’s even a word. Probably not. Started fine, first twitch and tick over was nice and even, wanted to let the bike sort itself out and adjust whatever mixture it needed to. Seems happy.

Sun is shining this morning but it was frosty overnight so the council have been out plastering road salt, unfortunately my ride will have to wait until a bit of rain washes it away but it won’t be long now before Winter is behind. 👍

Happy days!!!! Please post a picture when you can, would love to see the end result. Cheers

After reading this post I was tempted to drill out the baffles on my Classic and...

THE GOOD NEWS is it seems to have been done already (bought it pre-owned)... I could use a confirmation on it though. Could've been a little more precise to be centered.... however being that they are not noticeable to the eye unless you're laying flat on the ground I can learn to live with it.

THE BAD NEWS is my stock pipes (that I love) won't be getting any louder without additional mods or aftermarket slips ons/pipes.

I do have the Brentune applied, and on the fence about the Stage 2 DNA/K&N air filter but the concern of oil filters causing issues are holding me back from pulling the trigger on it. Considering either removing the plastic tubes on the stock air filter housing OR buying the metal frame only for DNA/K&N filter but using it with the OEM air filter (get rid of OEM plastic housing). Has anyone tried this method? Curious to hear your feedback.

Side question - my bike used to start on first attempt BEFORE the Brentune. now it requires two attempts. Has anyone else experienced this? I do not currently have the GS911 so any other tips or tricks would be appreciated.

I don't have the 'Brentune' on my ride ... but when mine is hesitant in starting I take my GS-911 and reset the 'Learned Values' that usually clears that right up ... the gas mileage is lower for a couple of tanks but that will be re-learned ... just my ¢2
