Hi -

Just noticed recently that I have a broken part at the top of my front fork - see pics. Need help identifying the part - and its purpose. Also, a part number for a replacement would be appreciated.

Thanks!!tempImageSAre6Q.jpgtempImageDfgrhD.jpgtempImageRUaISG.jpgtempImage5Oy5IS.jpg

Not sure what model you're on, but here's a couple versions.

Probably gonna be at that $600 price for any of the models. Not sure the differences between the piece bike to bike. Assuming it's probably a mounting point tho.

Wow was it a big pot hole

You're awesome! Thanks a bunch! I had a low speed minor accident a few months ago (swerved into a pickup to avoid being sideswiped by an suv) and the bike spent two months in the shop getting the parts in (anniversary edition). Surprised they missed this. Can't think of any other incident being responsible. I've been riding with it broken for a couple of months with no noticeable impact (I've checked some pics I've taken over the months to see how long it's been broken), so seems I can continue to ride while waiting for the part? Fingers crossed!

Looks to like it’s been broken for a while, looking at the shear fracture of on end pictured. I would think that if the bike is still within the warranty period it would be covered due to the nature of the failure. Hard to say without close inspection but in my opinion, from what I can see, there could have been some SCC (stress corrosion cracking) from a earlier incident that lead to the ultimate failure of the component pictured. Is the ball joint free of movement or locked up ?

Any shop that missed that isn’t worth retuning to, the steering would have felt really light without the dampener and that would have alerted any mechanic worth his salt. Cheers Mick
