Has anyone out there with an R18 ever had to use the emergency wallet key ? tonight took out my key for fuel up and for some reason the battery had dropped out so no start after i had fueled up .Tried the emergency key as the dealer told me , (just hold it on the seat and the programmer will pick up the signal hah hah no chance , luck played its part as the garage had a replacement battery , so its off to see MR BMW .

Jesus, that was lucky. Well, in the last 4 months or so I have had to replace my fob battery twice. First time I had the amber warning on the TFT telling me the battery was at 50%. Luckily I both a set of 6 and kept it inside the panniers. Maybe a week or so later I had a grey warning telling me that the battery was dead and there were very limited functions available. I changed the battery back then and last week I had the amber warning once, followed by the grey one on Saturday. I either bought a set that was seating on the shelves since T-Rex roamed these lands or there is some power hungry system depleting the fob battery so quickly. The only time I touch the fob is to manually set the alarm as I don’t like the automatic setting when leaving the bike. Anything else is done by the handle bars controls. Maybe the constant communications between the bike and the fob is the cause, but the original battery on the fob lasted over a year and a half.

Try sticking the plastic key under the seat coming in from the back under the fender.
