I bought this ol barge a couple of weeks ago! Pre registered to BMW, 7 miles, £16,999 reduced from £31,500, I just couldn’t say no. It gets such a mixed reaction, literally people stare in distain, which I get, through to people wanting to take a photo and saying it is the most beautiful bike they have ever seen.

I’m still adjusting to the ride, heavy, slow, and cumbersome, but I think we will gel in the end. I’ve always mostly had sports bikes, other than the 1250 GSA it replaces, my 3rd GSA, I just find them a bit of a non event.

For the money I’m willing to give it a go.

Fingers crossed.

Welcome to the fold. It's a much, much different ride than a sport bike, and much different from my GS.
Last year, on a round-trip ride from Pennsylvania to Maine, I had people do double-takes; tell me it's beautiful bike; say they had never seen a Beemer that big; and I heard, from across the parking lot, 1 guy tell his companions that it's a work of art. One small group of Goldwing riders were admiring it in the hotel parking lot and we had a lot of fun good-naturedly harassing one another. They lIked the TC, and 1 of the wives said: 'I can't believe I just complimented a BMW rider.' 😄 Good folks!
I agree with the guy across the parking lot: machine art. That is also a helluva joy to ride!

Sitting at a light waiting to make a left turn, I had a guy who must have been in his 80’s and his wife squeeze between cars and pull up next to me and starting shouting something like 1800 cc’s wow, etc etc. I couldn’t hear all of it but just seeing him squeeze between cars was a riot.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys and girls, many thanks from England. Just ordered the bagger screen and a few other bits. I love the look of the bagger but wanted the top box to hopefully covert my wife into coming out with me. I guess if she doesn’t then I’m never going to get her out on the back of a bike!! Fingers crossed.

My last bike, a 1st gen Yamaha Vmax, got a lot of attention, but my R18 was the first bike I’ve owned that someone wanted to take a picture of. I think they are beautiful bikes. From a visual perspective, it is the best bike I’ve ever owned.

Yup, that is where I got her from. Witham is my local dealer as I am in Langdon Hills, just outside Basildon. 🙄
Let me know if you are around one day for a ride out and I will come out to play.👍

Thanks, I’ve got a Zero SR/S which replaced a Panigale V4S, I swear it’s as quick through the twisties. Always puts a smile on my face.

welcome , yes its a touring bike totally different to sports bikes , dunno how you come to think its slow mine certainly is not , in rock mode , but i agree with the guy who said whats the hurry ? enjoy the engineering and sound thats what motorcycling is about.

Yes I realise it’s far from a sports bike. I’m still running it in and have done so mostly in roll mode to be kind to it. I’m upto 300 miles and had a ride in rock and it is surprising how the old girl gets going. Having dropped my wife at the airport I have a few days to myself and am at this moment sitting with a beer looking at the paintwork co e to life in the sun. Just stunning, could literally sit and look at it all day. I’ve never owned a bike with such build quality. ❤️

Guys I just wanted to thank all you nice people who welcomed me to your forum, but last night I made a decision that the bike wasn’t for me. There were a couple of things with the bike in terms of scratches and a very small dent on the tank, but mostly that it didn’t make me want to go out and ride it, I got more pleasure sitting looking at it. Probably going to look at a 1300 GS Adventure at the end of the year. Thanks again to all and stay safe.
