I am planning to switch from 6.5" mini apes to R1200C 11" apes. The knurl section is wider on the R1200C. Not sure if it is safe to clamp bars on a smooth section. Anyone tried this?

I would get the knurl part expanded at a machine shop

A decent motorcycle shop will have a 'hand knurl' they can do that in a couple minutes for you.
