Klock Werks windshield for R18B

I made the jump and bought the new Klock Werks windshield (with top recurve) for my 2023 R18B. It was pricey at $350 delivered, but you get what you pay for. As usual, Klock Werks delivered top quality. I took the bike on a trip, putting about 400 miles on various roads and speed zones. The recurve windshield made a significant difference in felt wind and buffeting. I have a standard R18B seat, and I am 5' 10" tall. The wind stream goes over my helmet, while still allowing decent air flow around my shoulders. With the standard windshield, I was getting some buffeting around the upper chest and shoulders. The Klock Werks eliminated most of it. My vision is clear as I look over the top of the dark smoke version of the windshield. The only times I notice increased wind affect is when I am cutting into a brisk headwind, which is certainly to be expected. All in all, the new Klock Werks is a winner for me and looks outstanding.

I have one on my 2022 R18B . I share your opinion . I also installed the lower deflectors that I bought on E bay . Helps from the wind coming from the bottom sides of the front Batwing and blowing up on your chest .

I should have stated I have batwing deflectors as well which helps with buffeting from below.

Did you consider the 7 Jurock at any point? If so, what made you decide on the Klock Werks? I'm considering the 7 Jurock for my R18B - but given that I'm the same height as you (and your positive review) I might reconsider.

Yes, I looked at it but did not care for its appearance. Taller and different shape from the Klock Werks.

I went KlockWerks as well and share the same observations/experience as the OP. For all I know, the Jurok could be leagues better, but it just kills the lines of the bike for me.

Just installed on my B. I am 6’1 and my wind buffeting got significantly worse. Anything over 60 is almost unbearable. After about a 15 minute ride around 70-80 mph I actually started to get a headache it was so bad. Look wise it is amazing in the dark smoke and great quality. My stock screen will be going back on.

I was considering the KW shield but too many people have issues with buffeting. I have a TC with original shield and have no wind issues but find that the top of the shield is right in my line of site unless I sit up real straight or slump enough to look through the shield. I really like the looks of the KW. I think without some sort of recurve anything shorter than the existing will start causing buffeting for me since I can feel a lot of wind about 1-2" above my head when testing with my hand while riding.

It would be interesting to see how a Klockwerks windshield would work on a Transcontinental. I have found after trying several windshields that installing the Transcontinental lower leg shields combined with the Transcontinental windshield was the magic formula. I did not try the lower windscreen after I mounted the lower leg shields on my B model. I was so happy that the helmet buffeting was gone I did not experiment further.

Added the Klockwerks on my 2022 TC, agree with all comments following my 2k miles of riding. Would mention the closed position of the lower wings at highway speed works best for a balanced wind pressure. Stock seat, 5’-5” height and can still see above the top of the screen.

I bought the Klock Werks, rode with it for a couple months and ended up putting the OEM back on. That wind buffeting was too much.

I just installed the same windshield on my bike this afternoon. 22 r18b. I had the 18-in tall windshield from another manufacturer on there and it was just too tall and put the top of the windshield right in my field of view. I am 6 ft tall. The Klock Werks is much better and I can see perfectly now. I went with the tinted one so I can still see through it if I need to. I agree, fit and finish is excellent and it was easy to install. The bike also looks much better with a shorter windshield. I'm amazed how much that lip throws there over your head for being such a short windshield.

Have you taken it on a higher speed ride yet? Seeing as you’re about the same height as me I’m curious to see how much wind buffeting you’re going to get. I’m 6’1 and anything over 70 is unbearable.

Yes, and you're right the buffeting is still there but it's not because of the windshield. I've been studying the aerodynamic cause of the helmet buffeting for the last few weeks while riding. When I engage cruise control. I can take my hands and place them down to the sides of the tank to deflect the air coming up from below the fairing. Even though I have the wind deflectors, there's still quite a bit of air coming up around the forks and above the cylinder heads. This is what is causing the buffeting of the helmet. I have another windshield that is 22 in tall and the wind buffeting above 70 mph is still unbearable. Realizing this, I looked at the design of the Transcontinental model and realize their leg deflectors are there to deflect the air and reduce helmet buffeting. I ordered a pair of these off eBay and I'll be installing them and the next couple weeks. I'll test my theory and let you guys know if they help with the buffeting. If not I'm going to contact my engineer and I'll create my own air deflector to prevent this buffeting. With my OEM deflectors, they make absolutely no difference as far as I can tell.

I'm still rocking the OEM Model B windshields; I have the all clear windshield, which is the original, as well as a decorative windshield where the bottom half is Black in color - which is good for keeping an EZ-Pass out of sight.

I have the Black Wind Deflector, which I haven't tried riding with as of yet (in fact, I'm not even sure where I stored it...); I might try it on my next ride and see what sort wind experience it provides...

I'm 5'9" and don't seem to experience the buffeting issues that others have reported... that in mind, it's a motorcycle.. it's going to be windy..

I installed the leg fairings on my bike over the weekend. Huge Improvement. They keep the air from coming up under the fairing, which causes helmet buffeting at Highway speeds. I have the Clock Werks windshield, which isn't very tall but it has a nice lip on the top that helps move the air up over your helmet. It's obvious after putting these leg deflectors on that BMW designed them for highway speeds. My 2023 R 1250 RT had great wind deflection. I'm wondering why BMW didn't put a electric windscreen mechanism on the R18?? That would have made a huge difference. Got them on ebay. Installation took about 2 hours. I had to drill out the holes a bit bigger on the lower leg brackets that attach the fairings to the crash bar. There's already a location/mounting spot that's built into the crash bars. These brackets come with the kit. You have to supply the bolts that hold the brackets to the crash bars. Easy peasy.
