R18TC
Hello All,
New to the R18TC, new to the forum, not new to BMW. I have owned a few, and never really considered engine sound as a concern. NOW however, the R18 has me thinking there are times I would like to be a little more obnoxious, lol. There are also times the stock sound is loud enough. I have tried to do some reading on the Jekyll and Hyde exhaust with it's switchable tones.
I like to concept, I just wondered if anyone could give me some first hand experience?

Thank you in advance!

I installed the J&H exhaust; I like how it looks, very similar to the OEM exhaust (which also looks great). I always ride my bike in ROCK mode with the exhaust in Hyde mode (louder-throatier sound)

I posted a PDF which covers the installation; very easy self install, which helps offset the cost.

Scott,
Thank you for the reply. In your opinion, it is worth the expense? Being new to the forum, and forum's in general, do I search your name to find the PDF you posted?
Sorry if this is a stupid question

My thoughts on the exhaust is that it's expensive, but so is everything else post COVID; I got it at a discounted price from Wunderlich, because of an issue with the side case protection bars that I purchased from Wunderlich.

Something as big as the R18 B or TC shouldn't sound like a sewing machine.. I can honestly say that the J&H product is very high quality... Looks amazing and adds a nice sound.

Maybe try deleting the servos from your OEM exhaust system first, which is fairly inexpensive ($130 for two ServoBuddy modules); and you can always return the bike back to 100% stock if you decide to go in another direction.

I've thought about deleting the servo functionality on my bike, coupled with the J&H exhaust and see what sound and or performance gain I get; however, I'll probably wait until after my 6k service is complete and or further down the road when my warranty expires.

So far, I'm happy with the J&H system; it's not obnoxious in anyway... I'd post a video; however, I don't think the recordings capture the true sound.

I can say that the exhaust note on my Classic became deeper as the mileage increased and reminded me of when some of the muffler packing would be lost over time in my bikes years ago. I'm not aware that modern exhausts have anything similar in their construction, but others on the forum have noticed it as well.

The extra Tupperware on the B/TC likely reflect sound differently/louder than the FE/Classic bikes and it's certainly hard to ignore the engine's internal "cacophony" on the naked models especially as you get those first miles in. My ears are now mostly adjusted to it, my stock exhaust sounds very nice and only on occasion do I hear some clatter that makes me pause 🫣 😂. Earplugs will help in the short term while you research options, but "they all do that" definitely applies to the R18 letting you know they're running.

Hi, In fact I have the same feeling about stock sound of my R18. I like the look of the stock exhaust, so change for a different one is not an option for me. I was recommended to try ES Eliminator https://www.healtech-electronics.com/products/ese/ . Have you considered it?
