Trust me when I tell you that my heart is very heavy. I have done my research on the K for a number of years and I am aware of the quirks and complexity of the bike, compared to the R18 platform which is a lot easier to live with, maintain and sure footed on the road, but I find myself more and more in longer journeys hence the decision to jump on the K as a mile muncher. I hear you and somehow I make you right but I am going in with my eyes open and I think I will be ok. Cheers buddy 👊🏼
 
@Anibal - congratulations on the new purchase; thank you again for getting me the Mini-LED directionals that for some reason aren't available in the USA via BMW...

Beautiful. My first BMW was a K bike, a 1985 K75T, that I bought brand new. Just one word of caution… I don’t think I have ever seen a K1600 Bagger that didn’t have the panniers scraped from a drop. Protection bars would be my first purchase if I bought one.

Thank you for that. I will definitely look into adding protection to her. Although lighter than my B, she is still a heavy ballerina.
 
I test drove a K1600 today at BMW’s “Ride and Decide”event. First time for me. Very different bike.
It appears BMW designed this bike with a short stroke and capable of very high RPM’s.
At 60 mph on highway it sounded like a sewing machine “zing” or high buzz.

Has 3 modes.

It has the forward positioning for the feet which I like.

On the K1600 the short stroke is a inherited concept from the hypersports. For this six cylinder in line, it is all about smoothness of an as wide as possible torque range. Indeed sewing machine smooth.
Just think about it for a moment: Max output from a 1600 four in line would be the same. The only reason for assuming the complications and cost of making it a six inline is the inherent balance, smoothness. Quite a gem of an engine. Smooth is character too (y)

I had one two years ago which was the last time I would buy an ‘ex-management’ bike, she kept throwing different engine gaskets and covering me in oil. I would certainly have had another as the engine is so so addictive when she revs, howls like an older Formula 1 car. Trouble is that would have seen my licence exit stage left very quickly and my misses kept punching me in the ribs! So I calmed down, gave myself a slap and went for the Classic.
Look after yourself and remember to keep that hose rinsing away from the spark plugs.

Thank you for the advice. I have heard a few horror tales about that and the coils, therefore will bear that in mind. Yes, the engine sound is very pleasant to hear. I was considering to change the exhausts for the quad Remus but quite frankly, the stock ones sounds pretty good. The Remus allows a deeper throaty sound, shaves a few pounds and show the 719 wheel a lot more but that is another 2 K which is unnecessary at this point. I just purchased a Alpinestars jacket and a supertech R10 element helmet to match the 719 paint option so that will be enough for now. Keep safe 👊🏼

Glad you had the chance to test one. The K is different to any other bike I have ridden and it is definitely a mile muncher. What I like the most is the relaxed ride given the wind management/protection is very good. That paired with the super smooth and vibration free acceleration and ride, makes her a very good platform for extended long distance riding. It will never have the character and charm the R18 has, that is indisputable, but fit my current needs for now.
