Black Roctane & Red R18
Well chaps (and any lady owners), this is something I’ve mused over a number of times. Just wondered if any of you have? We are told that the engine & gearbox weighs about 110kg, ok got that. So let’s take the smallest R18 with a wet weight of 345kg (for simplicity), where exactly is the other 235kg hidden? Beats me.

Imagine you take off the seat, mudguards, hand controls, foot controls, indicators, headlamp, drain the petrol tank and remove that lot and stick it in a pile……what do you reckon, 35-45kg tops. So we are down to about 190kg.

How can a frame, pair of wheels, forks, rear end and whatever’s left be so heavy? It’s like it’s made from lead. When you look at a R18 it’s a simple looking thing it baffles me tbh.

I found the seat pan & rear fender to be pretty heavy... I'd imagine the wheels, rear Bevel Gear drive and the rear swing arm make up a lot of that extra unknown weight..?

The frame is a very heavy design. I’ll bet the main frame weighs more that the power unit.

A fair portion will be the exhaust system, oil cooler system, fuel system, electronics, battery, stand, gearbox, drivetrain (solid shaft), rear differential, forks, wheels, frame, crash bars, metal body work, fenders, bags, suspension and the myriad other componentry... dead easy to find over 200kgs in that lot.

Don't forget the 35 lbs of air pressure in the tires...
