Help needed..... with bad electric thoughts....

As a child I Ioved playing with slot cars/scalextrics and am feeling the itch to own a fast electrical thing that can move me..... can't be a car (not visceral enough).

In aussie land one can now buy a Harely Livewire for about 35% of their $50k aussie original price (so less than $20k). Has anyone been tempted? (Maybe as a 2nd or 3rd bike toy?) I'm out my door into great hilly country rides within a mile, so range isn't an issue.

I'd probably have done it already if they oozed with the childhood "smell" memories of ozone, overheating insulation varnish, burning dust'n oil, arking brushes... ahh the good old days.

The biggest issue is the range on the Livewire. In mixed riding 70 to 90 miles. I do that well before lunch.

Not me so much these days... I don't have to travel to get to the good roads.... so 40 miles, food then back does me... if not then took the wrong bike for that trip! Also a bit of 25 mile local running about from time to time. So all good there as well.

It's a bit like having an enduro bike.... though I'd miss not having a reverse.

It’s a good looking bike, maybe try and test ride it first before jumping into owning one. At least you’ll not be put off by the weight

The "test ride" suggestion, is probably all that is needed to scratch that itch...

I would absolutely take a test ride.. however; I very much doubt that I would own an electric bike...

Riding for me is a mix of therapy and hobby... I enjoy the rides, rides with friends and the required upkeep and maintenance of a bike ownership.. The R18 is probably one of the easiest & cleanest bikes to maintain; where as the LIVE WIRE, would probably get me electrocuted.. even as an electrical engineer..

No way for me to get a test ride unfortunately. Servicing them is really easy.... mostly just the basics plus a well hidden small gearbox. Big issue would be a major fault/repair... or crash!

OK.... dumbest idea I almost ever had.

Joined the aussie Facebook group for the Livewire.... maybe only 80 ever sold here.... no real support, screens "delaminating" on > 50% of them... no easy replacement it seems etc etc. A real mess here I'd say.

Made R18 ownership look great, so kinda an upside....
