Givi Top Case on R18b

@bdalameda Hey Dan, this is going to be a weird question, but how does the gloss black on the GIVI case look against the Black Storm Metallic paint? I'm guessing there may be enough gloss black powder coated parts on the bike to make it look like it belongs without trying to get it color matched?

Also, are there any clearance issues opening the side cases?

Here are some pictures. I made the 1/4" aluminum plate that I. mounted to the BMW carrier using 8mm countersunk screws and then mounted the GIVI mounting plate on top of the aluminum plate using the Givi slotted square washers provided with the GIVI mount. I ordered an extra set of these washers so I could add extra 6mm bolds mounting them through the grid under the cover plate to provide plenty of support.

It looks fine and matches well - If the sun was reflecting on it you may be able to tell the difference as the BMW paint has some metal flake in it. You would have to be looking for the difference to even tell. The GIVI box is mostly flat black with painted inserts on the sides. One could take the inserts out and have them painted to match the OEM paint but I cannot tell the difference unless I am looking for it.

No there are no clearance issues opening the side cases.

Hey Dan,

Thanks again for all the detail, and I just received my Givi gear, and awaiting my BMW Carrier components.

I noticed you have the lighting kit.

Do you have that connected to the BMW Wiring Loom that’s underneath the seat. I’ve seen other posts that show it connected to the BMW TC Top Box/Tourpack.

I connected the topcase electrical to a HEX EZCan - this way I have it programmed for a brake light, turn signals and can set the brake light to act as a running light as well. The brake light settings in the EZCan has various settings to strobe the brake light when stopping etc. I also used the EZCan to drive the front flood/ driving lights. It is programmed to turn the lights on/off by holding the turn signal stop switch for a few seconds and I also set it up to run the lights at a lower output while the low beam is active and will turn them on full bright when the high beam is on. It also will blink the driving lights with the 4-way flashers and dim the driving lights when the turn signals are active to make the signal lights more visible.

Brilliant, I have a Canopener and Clearwater lights. I must check up on the CanOpener docs to see if I can do the same.

Confirmed: the Clearwater CanOpener has a Solution, called the BillieBrake Light, well, just need to switch out their Brake Light, with the Lighting kit for the Maxia 5. Thanks a gain Dan.

It turned out well and I can pop it off when I don't need it and just use the rack. This case matches quite well to the R18b styling - I was worried that it would look too modern vs the old style look of the R18B. To me it looks just fine. Now I have to figure out how to adapt the top case brake light and turn signals into the bikes wiring. I also installed the quick release electrical to the case that automatically disconnects when the case is removed. This case is substantially larger than the factory Transcontinental top case. It easily hold two full face helmets.

For long enough I have been looking for a way of adding a top box to my R18 Classic.
I managed to find a nice chrome rack, it turned out to be curved. So, I am still looking.
Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

Here is a video of a top case installation on a Classic that may be helpful.

Does anyone happen to know the dimensions of the Transcontinental rack, part 46545A6C470 ?

Reason I ask is because the trunk I purchased has a depressed, molded area where a rack is supposed to fit. I just don't know the width of the OEM Transcontinental rack. I guess the length (front to back) of the rack's mounting area would be good to know as well. Thank you!
