Fuel gauge?

Anyone seen or heard of a modification to add a fuel gauge to the R-18? Am I crazy for even wanting one? lol

Would be nice, but I doubt one is out there. Just use your trip meter.....

Yup. I just run it down until the reserve starts ticking up miles on the odometer and then I fill up.

If you combine the reserve miles plus trip meter, you should be perfect on the R18 pure or Classic. On my Classic, I hit reserve at about 130 miles and can safely do 20 miles past reserve. Tank would be completely empty about 40 past reserve.

I use 150 miles since fill up as my gauge. At 50 miles I’m at 2/3 of a tank. 75 miles is half tank and so on. Once I hit reserve, I’m looking to refuel.

Alternatively, I can aim to refuel every 2 hours, which is a nice time to take a break and depending on road speed reasonably close to when reserve would kick on.

I have a fuel gauge on my Indian and I find myself doing the same procedure between fill ups as I do on the BMW.I calulate the miles driven and divide the amount of fuel used when the warning light comes on.Usually on my R18C I have a little over a gallon.So,if I have 120 miles=3gal.So a minimum of40 mpg to find a gas station.Most fuel gages are a little goofy anyway.Also,I like the fact that when you start the bike the next day after riding the previous day the clock resets the daily total mileage.When I get on the bike the next day, I glance at the total on the odometer when I leave home then head to the gas station.
With the sidecar a fuel gauge and getting 25-30mpg on a 4.2 gallon tank would just be more painful,LOL
