Well chaps, an unexpected opportunity presented itself yesterday that could not be turned down. I was just about to mow the lawns when a good friend turned up at the gate. He’s into old vehicles and had just bought this Rolls Royce Silver Spur so he brought it round to show me. It’s 40 years old, has huge presence and well, in my eyes anyway is awesome. For those that don’t know it has a 6.75 litre V8 running on twin carbs! We went for a drive round the block chatting about the car and then he pulled over and said I could have a drive, if I wanted, so in all of 0.02 seconds I obviously said YES!!
It was terrific, I like old cars anyway. Objectively it was very softly sprung and a bit wallowy but on the other hand was the most ‘wafty’ and effortless car I have ever driven. Ever. It felt magnificent tbh. Pick up from idle was instant and looking over the long bonnet to see the Silver Lady piloting was pretty special. The interior was unbelievably comfortable with big, deep, soft leather chairs, polished wood and chrome everywhere.
Don’t even think about mpg or if something serious goes wrong. Erase it from your mind. Completely.
