BMW / OEM Accessories Withdrawal

Just a quick heads up that BMW appears to be to be withdrawing a fair portion of the R18 OEM accessories, certainly in the UK and Germany.

You may have noticed that some of the accessories had been significantly discounted recently. I purchased a front engine trim and was considering the passenger floor boards and the V&H exhausts, the later down to £400. A check a few weeks ago with the dealer confirmed that all were in stock with BMW and in the case of the pipes “plenty available”. Literally from Friday evening to Saturday morning the number of accessories available for my bike (Classic) dropped from 92 to 73. Apart from the floorboards and pipes I cannot remember what else went.

I called the dealer yesterday and he checked and confirmed pipes etc were “Discontinued, none available in UK or Germany, BMW are clearing R18 accessories stock” to quote. He didn’t think they had sold them all and more than likely just offloaded them somewhere.


So if you see something you like it might be worth going for it now rather than later.
 
Soon after I got my bike last October I wanted to get a set of V&H pipes and the BMW oval mirrors ... none available here in Canada so it's been that way for a while over here.

It’s a good time to buy now if you can find stock. I spoke to my dealer yesterday and they said that original msrps on a lot of r18 accessories have been slashed to move inventory. Not sure if bmw will be manufacturing any more custom accessories such as the RSD line.
 
My dealer couldn't even get the mirrors up here ... he found a set down in the US somewhere but I had already found something on eBay a member had posted about from an HD so I had him cancel the order ... saved myself a ton in the end.

But honestly, it may not be a bad idea for someone to hoard some of these items as I also own another discontinued bike (a 2012 Triumph Thunderbird) and parts for those are rare and command a decent price when they do show up online for sale (used usually too).
 
A couple of years ago I got the Vance and Hines pipes at an extremely low price (like $250). You just have to keep your eyes peeled. Wait a few years… BMW dealers will get sick of having to on their shelves. I’m a buyer on the Roland Sands Valve covers at $250 :-)
 
I just checked BMW of Grand Rapids (where I got my pipes) already has them for $899. I might go for it at $599
 
Ok, so I have to ask, with all this discounting, has BMW officially dumped the R18 (one says yes, another no)? Or is this just, "we couldn't sell our waaaaaay overpriced accessories"?

EDIT: The reason I posed the question is because I've seen online the answer is "yes" and "only for 26 to clear inventory". On the US website, there are no 26 models listed for the R18; only 25. Whereas some other bikes have already started to show 27 models.

So I finally found an article with the newer BMW CEO discussing the R20. It sounds like he doesn't particularly like the R18 so I'd say it is probably out the door. And that would explain the accessories discounts. Plus, no dealer is going to say, "Oh, yea, this model is already toast. Please buy them before we have to deeply discount it..." Sad it didn't seem to catch on. Absolutely love this bike.

Probably the same chap that designs the car fronts! Looking around a dealership yesterday I could not help think why have they all gone smaller having a more box shape with square edges. Having sat on a fair few of them they have adopted a sportier stance forgetting about pillion space or comfort, except for the r1300gsa. The gsa however just looks like it was designed by a kid still fixated on Transformers, it felt comfortable, but does not pass the glance back with admiration test for sure. Our configuration model in the UK also shows the Classic as not having the Auxiliary Lights and to have roughly what I have now is over £23k or $30.6k 😳 so I guess they do not want to sell many more either. Mine is definitely staying put.
 
I've been kicking around the idea of getting a used 2025-2026 HD CVO ST Road Glide, or perhaps the Street Glide CVO ST; that said, I've decided that I would also keep the R18 B, my oldest son also likes to ride and two bikes would allow us to plan some big trips together.

Plus, there's a LOT that I like better about the R18 vs the HD; I contribute the introduction of the R18 B / TC, to pushing HD to re-engineer their infotainment system on the two above mentioned bikes...

I've always gravitated towards the Street Glide, which is why the R18 B was such an easy jump for me; back in 2022, the R18 B was heads and shoulders above what HD was offering Street Glide wise..
