Aftermarket Mirrors

2023 R18 Transcontinental
I love my R18 Transcontinental! It’s probably the only bike that I’ve ever owned that I do not feel compelled to modify in anyway, except for one thing: the mirrors. They’re good, but I feel like I want an oval mirror to give me a little bit more visual real estate when I’m riding and I’m wondering if anybody has already done this to their bike?

I looked on the BMW website and there are no aftermarket options for mirrors there, IMG_0142.jpegso I’m wondering if you have updated your mirrors where did you get yours, what will fit, is it even worth doing?
 
I agree 100%... I personally installed the RSD machines mirrors; however, the original mirrors seemed clearer or didn't vibrate as much at highway speeds.

I kept the RSD machined mirrors in place, I love how the black and polished aluminum lines, align with the First Edition pin stripe lines on the fairing...

I did install inverted Biltwell mirrors on the beachbars of the First Edition project bike; I really like the finish and overall quality of the mirrors..

Do the RS mirrors vibrate at speed that the image may get distorted or is it not noticeable?
If they do I am thinking to place a spring washer to dampen the vibrations.
The mirrors are next on my list😉
 
The mirror image isn't as clear at high speeds, compared to what I remember when using the stock mirrors; the headlights on vehicles behind me, appear to swirl around with the RSD mirrors - that in mind, you can definitely see other cars around you.

Also, keep in mind I typically ride at 70 - 75+ mph.. at slower speeds, the reflected RSD mirror's image is extremely clear.

Mmm, will have to think about it a bit harder. Maybe Kuryakyn still does the Magnum mirrors. I had them on my M109R and they were superb and half the RS price but they only came in chrome and I would like them black.
 
What Scott said is the same.... normal riding and below 75mph they are great!! At 80+mph and on hard exceleration you get lots of vibration. On the average I do not notice it because I am not normally in those situations.

Do you notice any difference from a wind drag perspective?
 
I have heard people say that the round mirrors cause more drag and turbulence. It seems to create turbulence closer to the helmet. I was wondering if the RSD mirrors fare better. The shape and size suggests it might, but was wondering if anyone experienced it.
 
I had the stock round mirrors, and I'm currently riding with the RSD Mirrors; I still ride with the stock Model B windshield, along with the fairing winglets (mostly in the open position during the summer season) and I personally don't experience the buffeting issue that most bring up..

That said... I don't remember the wind management improving when I switched to the RSD Mirrors... perhaps my tolerance just improved...

I'm 180 lbs 5' 9" in height and enjoy long rides along coastal highways... LOL

As well as soft rock music, beach walks and the colour magenta 🤣🤣🤣
