Old retired guy here that enjoys project bikes. Just picked up a salvage 2021 R18 Classic.

1st problem - No fob or plastic key. How much trouble am I in and what is my best course of action?
Thank you.

Well, in the UK a new fob from the dealer will cost you a bit over £400.00. As far as I know, the dealer is the only one who can order a replacement fob and program it. You will need to have proof of purchase etc.
I am not sure of your location but if you are not UK based, I bet the circumstances will be similar.

Was told when I got the bike to guard that fob for dear life, as it’s something like $500 to replace here in the states.

Update - Good surprises are rare on a salvage project. I found the fob tossed in with a bunch of other junk in the saddle bag. Replaced bike battery, topped of oil, and bike started without hesitation. Still need to see dealer to get plastic key. Will update accordingly.
