20 inch LRS windshield for R18C pictures and thoughts

Just installed the new Long Ride Shields windshield.This is the 1st production.


It actually looks higher because of the angle of the photographer.It comes to my chin(6'3") and is perfect for the higher Corbin seat.
The 18 would also work well and I may get one.

I like that it is wider and not much difference in the 18 or 20 for protection.

After riding with the 20 inch version I found a bit more wind in my face.I talked to Billy at LRS and he told me that you get more negative pressure when going to a larger shield.This can cause buffeting and that is why Honda then, Harley created the mail slot to deflect air.My Indian has the openings in the adjustable windshiels.Anyway,LRS does install a Honda like vent for their windshields so that may be a option.
I am going to LRS in Sparks Nevada next week on my way to Washington State then back down Hwy #1 coast in California.Then back to Az.Should be gone for a couple of weeks.I will try the 18 when I get to Sparks and give a update then.

Honestly, in your opinion, is the Stock Windshield better (in terms of buffeting or wind direct to your face) or more comfortable against the 20 inch LRS Windshield? According to other posts that you have made, the OEM has 16 inches, and you are 1,90m tall (that's right?) said that: if you go to the 18 inch LRS and that results better for you, should I stay with the 16 OEM? (because I´m 1,80m tall).

Hey,thank you for your question.
It boils down to a somewhat of a personal thing.The lip helps for sure.I rode HDs for years and did not get why folks complained about buffeting.Then I rode the new Chieftain,got it!HD followed suit with their mail drop(openings in the fairing)to improve their buffeting issue.
The Chieftain was like riding in a convertible.Really night and day difference.
I will say the 20" is not bad here in the Arizona desert and I did take out the R18C after a 2 hour ride on the Indian yesterday so that comes into play.It does not really beat you but is does allow a bit more air in the face.
LRS has been great listening to me as a customer and accepting my input.I did ask then to make the windshield wider so there is 1 inch extra on either side.The 16 actually is darn good and my observation.Hands down better than the oem.They use a better processing during the manufacturing process and the polycarbonate material is really hard.The draw back for LRS and me is they don't have a bike there to mock up.So I have been sending the prototypes back and I only have the 20 inch now.
I have a vacation planned and had my indian equipped and ready to go,new tires, oil change brakes and fork rebuild.Suppose to leave this Monday or Tuesday but need to be back by in 3 weeks.
If I can get new tires put on the BMW before Monday I will head up to Sparks Nevada and visit LRS.The tire tread is 3/32.I found a rear tire in Tucson and will continue to hunt for a front in Phoenix today.Hopefully I can getr dun.
It would be great to try all 3 sizes then I can give a better description rather than a opinion(hate em).

How are you with the fitment of your shield? I should be getting mine shortly but was talking with LRS and they said their first run ran a bit thin on material. No worries though, as they made clear they will make sure to send me a replacement if its too loose.

As far as wind in your face, is it still better than the stock full-size windshield? That's all I really care about if I am honest. To the best degree possible of course though.

Yeah,
I called them about having some space between the bottom and mid screws in relation to securing the windshield.Although the shield does work and fitment is pretty darn good.I still felt that we could end up with a better curve and lay the shield completely flat to the bracket.After the discussion we agreed on making the gauge of the windshield out of thicker material rather then using shorter screws or thicker rubber grommets.
Also,the head programming engineer will be out of town till next week so I agreed to take my Bike up to Sparks so we can dial in the fit.Then I will make a vacation and head to Washington state to return back on Hwy#1 in California.
Lastly,
As I have stated before.The larger the windshield the more negative pressure behind the windshield.This causes more wind.Yes right on my face.
I will be riding there with the 20 inch but will probably go with the 18 inch.I gotta say,the 16 with the flip is really good and I may end up with that one.
I would recommend you wait a few days if you can.I am planning to be there on Wednesday and will stay a few days.I am hopeful this project will turn out really well.I am riding to the dealer to have 2 new tires installed to match the Dunlop American Elite that I have on the sidecar.

Got a chance to ride about 150 miles today with the 20 inch LRS w/flip shield today.I will say the 20 is pretty darn good and realized that I have been riding it with my Indian Motorcycle 1/2 helmet.I usually ride the BMW with a full face helmet so that is the difference.I will be leaving on monday for Pahrump Nevada then up to the LRS plant in Sparks.The engineer will be back and will be able to see my bike and make any changes to the final production shields.
Last minute thought,
since I am running a sidecar my air flow will be different than you folks with the 2 wheelers.
