    UPDATE: Made it home

What does the exhaust flap function actually do with regards to the R18? I'm guessing some form of emissions control?

    Dropped your R18 yet?

Having owned my bike for the past four years. I have great confidence during slow speed handling. Feels very balanced. You Tubers like MotoJitsu and others have been a great help in learning slow speed techniques.

    UPDATE: Made it home

Many thanks for the feedback Petrus and Star-lord. Helps very much in building confidence levels. The bike is fully serviced and BMW service history is up to date. Only happened the once, so perhaps an anomaly. Oil levels could have been a little low as I was on a long trip to France, from the...

    Dropped your R18 yet?

Didn't know that. Generally, at slow speeds I only use the rear break on the R18. Seems to provide far greater control.

    UPDATE: Made it home

Hi Petrus You seem knowledgeable on this subject. I had heard previously about the advantage of the boxer cylinder position over that of the HD. Can you say what might trigger the warning light if the cylinders are not overheating. Looking for the reassurance if I see the warning light again. So...

Brentuning Complete: My experience doing so...

The benefits of the tune are extremely subtle, but extremely satisfying. Not sure what you mean by 'Pinging'. I love the 'Popping',

    UPDATE: Made it home

That is interesting. I experienced it only once so far, on a trip to France. I didn't think too much about it until on here I saw one of our US members who has owned several R18's and numerous HD's, commenting that he went back to HD for several reasons, one of them being the overheating issue...

    UPDATE: Made it home

In my experience, this bike is only meant to be ridden comfortably at a max speed of 80 MPH. My maximum enjoyment comes in at around 60 - 80 I know that in the States, this can be too slow for traffic flow, but most of my riding done on A roads and not motorways (Interstate) My biggest...

    UPDATE: Made it home

Good to hear from you. I am very fond of NJ having spent some of my youth, visiting relatives in Teaneck, Barnegat, and Mountain Lakes. At 16 years old I wanted to join the US Navy but eventually ended up in the Royal Navy. I always change back to the long pipes when touring. Only takes 30 mins...

    UPDATE: Made it home

with adjustments to the gear shift. When my bike was new to me I was having exactly the same problems. After a few days they started to feel just about right for me and my size 10 feet. The rear shock is something definitely worth doing. There is a guide returning how many turns, both in the...

Approaching the handlebar closer on a Roctane

Hi Patricia One thing to be aware of. Depending on how far back you want the bars to be, you may need extended brake & clutch cables also. My risers throw the bars back around 32mm (1,1/2") My cables are only just long enough for this.

    Reverse Gear Recall

First ride since the fix and the new indicators which were part of my compensation package. Really enjoyed, and everything seems to be working OK. The software flash that was required for the fix means I have to pay $200 dollar upgrade to my BTmoto tune.

Recall? On all models with Reverse

Hi Big Jim $400 if you don't remove the tune prior to sending in the bike, and the tune is wiped off as part of any ECU mod's. $200 if you did remove the map prior to visiting the dealership.

Recall? On all models with Reverse

My bike was put back to stock. The handheld no longer recognises the flash as carried out by BMW, and so will not load up my modified file.
