As far as I am aware, the recall is due to a fault with the reverse mechanism, hence the recall. Gather evidence and make sure you push BMW to fix without charge. It's their problem, not yours.

With those superb pictorials, hopefully there will be less R18 side covers scattered about the road verges 🤣

Update: phoned BMW. Service light on and not due. Booked for software update at no cost.

So mine has suddenly come up with the 'Warning 1' with the wrench sign. Not sure if that's a service requirement or something else. Is there any way to find out or is it something only BMW can diagnose. Bit of a bore if the latter 🙄

Pretty sure that is correct. My BMW dealership took my reg number and ordered the part from Germany. I now charge via the Din port and don't take the cover off, unless necessary. Don't want to have to pay for another.

So, I've done about 500 miles on these Metzelers, and they are awesome. Much better than the Commanders. Grippy, smooth, quiet and just feel a lot safer on the road. Highly recommend if you need a tire change!

I'm going in for a tire change shortly via BMW dealer. They have quoted about £550 for front and back Metzeler ME888s. Never heard of them, but look to have good reviews, and seemingly last a long time.

Mine's now gone also. Been charging the battery and having known this was an issue and "thinking this'll never happen to me", I pushed the side cover back in as firmly as I could before ride - or so I thought. Such a bore.

Yes, I do like the 3 settings available. Heard the Hyde mode on their website, and sound really grunty. Also look very nice on your bike. Will take another look i think.

Guys- I love my R18, but the exhaust sound is just feeble. I need grunt. I've looked at Vance and Akrapovic, and both seem to be fairly tame for my taste. I don't want to remove the baffles out of the fishtails. Is there anything out there that matches the enormously gorgeous engine for sound...

I'm still tempted by a V-Rod. Would look great next to an R18!

I emailed BMW Motorrad Head office. Took a while to get a response, but they echoed what everyone else has said on the forum in terms of compensation.
