Teknolojay has pointed out a press release that says the instrument cluster on the R18 run on LinBus. Anyone have any more details on the 4 wires to the speedometer instrument (yellow, brown, blue with purple stripe, red with green stripe). Any details on the LinBus data packets and codes? link...

Thanks for the Lin bus info. I’ve got a microcontroller that can speak Lin. I’ll probe the gauge soon to see if I can decode the information sent to the gauge.

Unfortunately the FE R18 bikes do not have the mounting points (1 and 2 in your diagram). Otherwise, I could install something similar to tube marked as 3. I agree with your points above.....there must be a good engineering solution....if not I will abandon trying to use the Classic bags.

The Classic bags are larger and I would prefer not to use the BMW mounting hardware for the Pure Bags (I like the minimalism of the Easy Bracket mounts that stay on the bike vs the larger BMW bag supports)

Thanks, If I try the Easy Brackets and offset the mounting points on the OEM R18 Classic saddlebags, I will let you know how it works. I like the fish exhaust and don't want to swap a bunch of components. But I do want completely removable bags....without having to remove hardware each time.

Hi, Has anyone determined a way to mount the OEM R18 Classic bags on a FE R18? I am considering Easy Backets (link).

On the FE, there is day and date that is accessible in the menus. I’m sure it reads those from the computer. Just not sure how it call works.

I’d like to turn a spare 2021 BMW R18 FE OEM Speedometer Instrument Gauge into a desk clock. Anyone have any suggestions on how to communicate and power the gauge? I am a EE and expect to write some software to do this. Perhaps over a can bus network? Any details or suggestions on where to find...
