It is completely normal for combustion engines to have to work harder in cold temps. That is why the first part of my response was to simply follow BMW service guidelines and schedules.

As far as fuel economy goes I have never given it more thought that what I did thinking I was giving it no thought for this reply. When it’s empty I fill it up.
