    Speedometer mysteries from Europe

My r1200gs is 6 mph off at 70, so that's in the ballpark. Most bikes read a little high, but how much varies from model to model.

    Cam upgrade?

More of a general motorsports thing. Harleys for sure, but also a popular upgrade in car engines to get the most power. It's a goto mod on large displacement non-turbo engines.

    R18B baffle removeal?

My bike got hit and knocked over and I replaced the fish tail that was damaged ($1600) with a pair of the V&H mufflers ($900). The V&H were too quiet for my taste, but I didn't want the full open pipe obnoxiousness. I did what I have done on other bikes and just drilled a hole (in this case...

    The one that got away…

Sold my Africa Twin earlier this year because there was a lot of overlap with my 1200 GSA and I was making space in the garage for a new bike for my sweetie. I think I will miss that bike for some time. It was just enough lighter and lower than my GS it made for a really pleasant bike to ride...

How to keep that R18 rear fender looking good as new?

I usually put down some clear bra or similar material under a rear seat that mounts to the fender. It works well to protect the paint. I did it to my R18 and it has held up nicely so far. I can always peel it if I decide to run a solo seat.

Is this the reflector I need?

I pulled my reflectors off day 1, it makes the bike look a lot cleaner.

Any using the Unit titanium mufflers? (silencers for UK foks)

That Zard is interesting, thanks for the share.

    R18 hit while parked

So I ended up turning into my insurance as an uninsured driver claim and they agreed with the estimate from the dealer within a few bucks. Still waiting on the check from them, but went ahead and ordered new mirrors, levers and bar ends and swapped those in today. I am impressed with how this...

Any using the Unit titanium mufflers? (silencers for UK foks)

So in another thread I described how my bike was hit by a van while it was parked and I finally got it sorted out. Now I am balking at the cost of replacing the stock fishtail muffler, $1,650 seems like a crazy amount for a single muffler. I really like the look of the fishtails, but am not...

Mobil 1 15w/50 Full Synthetic Oil?

Been running that in my 2013 R1200GS since it's first oil change and have been happy with the performance. I don't plan on using it on the R18 at this point.

    R18 hit while parked

Yeah, I am sure I couldn't replace the bike for what the insurance company would offer if it is totalled. On the other side, if it isn't totalled, then I have a bike with an accident on the title, which would make it worth less and harder to sell if I decide to do that down the road. Neither...

    R18 hit while parked

I have two exciting updates! The insurance company tells me the woman driving doesn't have insurance through them, while the woman ensures me she does. This could get entertaining. Also- the damage estimate came back and it's $10k. That's higher than I was figuring, but the tech found a...

Whats the mileage on your R18??? And how long have oyu owned??

Bought last October, somewhere around 1,800 miles. Of the 4 bikes I ride regularly, the R18 gets ridden the least.

    R18 hit while parked

Oh yeah, my GS has been over a few times while doing light off roading. A couple scuffs here and there but nothing I ever felt the need to repair. I run Pelican cases as panniers and they take a drop really nicely, can barely tell at all they were down. Meanwhile, my R18 has dozens of...

    Seat change...

I went from the low seat to the "Comfort" seat and it is better, but still not great, but I have found over the years my butt is pretty choosy.

    R18 hit while parked

Yeah, that's what I am worried about. I guess I will see! At least my local dealer has some low mileage used bikes in stock if I end up needing to replace it.

    R18 hit while parked

Whelp, attended a BBQ festival over the weekend and my bike was hit by a van while it was parked. Hit on the left side and knocked over onto the right. The factory engine guard did a good job overall, but still damaged the muffler, head pipe and valve cover on the side of the nap. I'm worried...

Anyone installed handlebars meant for another bike?

Excellent. I was looking at some Scout bars made by Dean Speed. I may give them an order- I'm after something a little taller and a little narrower than I can find made for the R18 specifically. Thanks for the response!

    R18 vs R18 Classic

That's quite the price difference for cruise. That said, the R18 cruise is handy and easy to use. Of all the cruiser style bikes I have ridden (Indian, Harley, Triumph) I like the BMW controls the best. Good luck with your decision!

Anyone installed handlebars meant for another bike?

So the R18 bars are 1" where they clamp to the risers and narrow down to 7/8" at the grips. I know a couple other bikes that use bars set up that way, like the Indian Scout and the Harley Nightster. Has anyone used a handlebar other than ones from BMW or Wunderlich? There are some additional...
