Glad you got it sorted. Was the dealer Williams ?. So far I have had a trouble free time. Hope from now on it is the same for you.

As you will see on here the seat does not have too many fans. A shame because you will find the bike is a natural for covering long distances.

Worst feature on the bike has been the seat. I have never had such an uncomfortable one on any bike. Other than that a great bike. The more miles it does the sweeter the engine gets. When do you pick yours up ?

I got mine from there at the end of April. Now done over 5000 miles on it. They take a fair amount of progressive running in before they start to loosen up. Good luck.

R18 Transcontinental or K1600 Grand America?

I have had a K1600 and have a R18 Classic. For slower relaxed touring the R18 every time. If your game is 80 mph + touring then the K1600 takes some beating. Bags of power and the faster it goes the happier it seems. To me they are very different bikes for very different riding.

    R18B ride review

6 minutes of BS before he has got on the bike By 10 minutes it is more than clear this is about the rider not the bike. I need a break.

Good luck and keep us posted. Let's hope you get a replacement and they can work out what went wrong. Out of interest which country are you in ?

    Don't stuff your Classic bags

This must be a USA owners issue. Are they factory fitted or but on by the dealerships ?

    Hard starting

2800 miles. Always starts first touch of the button.

    Cost of first service

It was the same in the UK although I suspect it was covered in the purchase price.

    Difference between R18 FE

No I don't have floor or footboards. Just the standard footrests. My bike is the Classic so has the more conventional silencers rather than the fishtails. I wondered if that had impacted on the design of the sidestand.

    Difference between R18 FE

I have the Classic ( ie screen & panniers ). It has the steering damper and the second type of side stand. The side stand design might be due to the different exhaust design.

Where did you get the rear carrier from ?.

    DK Designs Front Fender Video

By /5 and /6 I was referring to standard BMW production bikes of the 1970's which had high quality plastic front and rear mudguards ( fenders if you are from the USA) fitted. It is worth looking at how they are fitted and the quality of them.

    Undercarriage protection

    Neat work.

    R18 Touring Transcontinental

Germany allows decent speeds still and there is always the 11th commandment. ie Though shall not get caught.

    DK Designs Front Fender Video

Plastic (abs) is far better than metal for a mudguard. My old 1970's BMW /5 and /6 were fitted with them as standard and they are still good. Those on the Harley just rot. On the old BM's they had a stainless steel backplate but in those days quality was much better.

    R18 Touring Transcontinental

I doubt it. The R18 will never be a sports tourer. The K1600 is for a very different market. The R18 is not for 150 MPH touring.
